The Role
SpeedRadio runs a short-form audio platform. Our backend is a set of Python microservices behind mobile apps (Android and iOS) and web apps. Those services cover auth, content and clip processing, a personalised feed, event tracking, notifications and internal staff tools. You’ll join a small team and own features from API design through to production.
What you’ll do
Build and maintain REST APIs in Python and FastAPI, working with the mobile and web teams on API contracts.
Work on our services: engine (core APIs), feed and recommendations, tracking and analytics, content processing pipeline, notifications and auth.
Design MongoDB data models and write safe data migrations across dev, staging and prod.
Build async and event-driven flows with Kafka, Celery and Redis.
Ship to Kubernetes on AWS: Docker, environment config, monitoring with Prometheus, and debugging production issues.
Help with ranking, tracking and ML-backed features such as embeddings, LLM tagging through AWS Bedrock, and speech-to-text.
Must have
About 3 years of backend development, mostly in Python.
Solid experience with FastAPI (or Django/Flask), REST API design and Pydantic.
MongoDB, or another NoSQL database, in production.
Queues and background jobs: Kafka, Celery, Redis or similar.
Docker and Git, plus a basic working knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS.
Ownership: you can debug a production issue end to end and write a clear PR.
Nice to have
Recommendation systems, feeds, or event and analytics pipelines.
LLM or ML integration: embeddings, Bedrock or OpenAI, Whisper.
Audio or media processing (ffmpeg).
Experience at a startup or on a small team.
