Role Description
The Structural Designer is responsible for developing structural designs, preparing detailed engineering drawings, and producing technical documentation for building, infrastructure, and construction projects. The role focuses on translating engineering concepts and architectural requirements into practical structural solutions that meet project specifications, applicable design standards, and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities include preparing structural layouts, foundation plans, framing plans, sections, elevations, and detailed drawings for beams, columns, slabs, steel structures, and other load-bearing components. The Structural Designer ensures that drawings are accurate, dimensions are consistent, and structural details are clearly presented to support effective coordination, fabrication, and construction activities.
The position involves reviewing architectural drawings, engineering specifications, design calculations, and project requirements to identify potential discrepancies and ensure compatibility between structural and architectural elements. The designer coordinates with structural engineers, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders to resolve technical issues, incorporate design revisions, and maintain consistency across project documentation.
The Structural Designer utilizes computer-aided design (CAD), building information modeling (BIM), and other relevant engineering software to develop detailed drawings and three-dimensional models. Responsibilities include updating design documents, managing drawing revisions, maintaining organized technical records, and ensuring that all deliverables comply with established drafting standards and project requirements.
Additional duties include supporting structural design reviews, checking drawing accuracy, assisting with material quantity assessments, and preparing technical documentation for project submissions. The role also contributes to design optimization by identifying opportunities to improve structural coordination, material efficiency, constructability, and overall project quality.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain clear communication with multidisciplinary teams, manage assigned design tasks effectively, and deliver accurate technical documentation within established deadlines. Strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to structural safety and engineering quality are essential to the role.
