The role ensures that product specifications meet Cummins, industry, national, and international standards while maintaining high levels of design quality, accuracy, and configuration control.
The role supports the development and maintenance of EBU component and assembly designs , works closely with engineers and cross-functional teams, and contributes to engineering change activities, drawing quality reviews, and continuous improvement. The position requires intermediate-level technical knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to progressively take ownership of assigned design and drafting activities.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Modeling & Design
Create, modify, and maintain 3D component and assembly models using Creo based on engineering requirements, design inputs, packaging constraints, and applicable standards.
Support engineers in developing CAD concepts and basic design solutions for assigned EBU components and assemblies.
Apply mechanical design principles to develop accurate and practical design concepts that meet product and customer requirements.
Escalate complex design or technical decisions to the responsible engineer or technical lead.
Engineering Drawings & Specifications
Create and revise production engineering drawings using Creo , including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, notes, material information, and other required specifications.
Develop complete product specifications through solid models, configured engineering BOMs, and detailed drawings that communicate design intent for manufacturing and inspection.
Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) appropriately to product specifications.
Ensure models and drawings meet applicable Cummins, industry, national, and international standards.
Participate in Drawing Quality Reviews and incorporate feedback to improve design and documentation quality.
CAD Quality & Configuration Management
Perform detailed self-checks of Creo models and drawings before formal review, including geometry, dimensions, interfaces, clearances, drawing details, and design requirements.
Use Windchill and CAD data management tools to manage models, drawings, revisions, product data, and lifecycle activities.
Maintain accurate product configuration and ensure appropriate control and traceability of engineering data.
Implement approved engineering changes through CR/CN/CA processes , updating Creo models, drawings, revisions, and associated Windchill information.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Process internal engineering work requests and deliver assigned activities within agreed quality and timing expectations.
Engage with engineering, manufacturing, quality, product, and other functional teams as required.
Obtain and incorporate relevant technical inputs into models, drawings, and product specifications.
Communicate technical issues, risks, and potential delays proactively.
Product Knowledge & Continuous Development
Develop working knowledge of EBU products, mechanical components, interfaces, manufacturing processes, GD&T, and applicable engineering/design standards .
Consider manufacturing and lifecycle requirements when developing product specifications and design documentation.
Learn from drawing reviews, checker feedback, quality issues, and completed assignments and apply those learnings to future work.
Progressively take greater ownership of assigned work and require less supervision as technical capability develops.
Participate in maintaining standards, practices, and processes that support consistent engineering quality.
