The team focuses on managing the full lifecycle of patient accounts from creation to payment, ensuring compliance with relevant state and federal regulations.
About the Opportunity:
The PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE role is responsible for managing and resolving patient account balances efficiently. This position plays a critical part in maintaining revenue flow by following up on claims, reviewing remittances, and addressing disputed balances. The representative contributes to the organization's financial operations by working independently and collaboratively to resolve accounts with minimal assistance, supporting overall revenue cycle effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
Research patient accounts using internal applications and internet resources.
Contact third-party payors and patients via phone, email, or online to resolve account issues.
Update insurance information and document claim status and actions taken.
Identify and address billing or coding errors; request re-bills or corrected bills as needed.
Open dispute records for accounts requiring further research.
Maintain daily productivity and quality standards without backlog.
Assist with special projects and communicate findings.
Identify payor trends and escalate delayed payments or aged accounts to supervisors.
Participate in meetings and training to develop job knowledge.
Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations for managed care and third-party payors.
Requirements:
Thorough understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle from patient access to collections.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Ability to quickly learn hospital systems such as ACE, VI Web, IMaCS, and OnDemand.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
Knowledge of Commercial, Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid collections, contracts, and related regulations.
Familiarity with terms like HMO, PPO, IPA, Capitation, and understanding of EOBs and billing forms (UB04, HCFA 1500).
Problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks thoroughly.
High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in business administration or accounting preferred.
1-4 years of medical claims and/or hospital collections experience.
Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
