Data Engineer / Senior Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric

About OUR CLIENT
OUR CLIENT is a US-based data and analytics consulting firm. It builds modern Microsoft data platforms for enterprise customers. Its current main project is a customer data foundation on Microsoft Fabric for a large North American specialty retailer. The retailer has a national store network, several e-commerce sites and a loyalty program.
The project brings store (POS), e-commerce and loyalty data into one governed customer model. That model will power a new customer engagement platform and marketing performance reporting.
The team is small, senior and fully remote. Projects are long-term: this one is expected to run 2–3 years, and more enterprise projects are in the pipeline.
Open Positions
Senior Data Engineer (1): a hands-on technical anchor who sets design and data quality standards, reviews code and supports other engineers
Data Engineer (1–2): builds reliable, tested pipelines from clear specs, with guidance from the senior engineer and the US CTO
What You’ll Do
Design and build pipelines from ERP/POS (Microsoft Dynamics 365), e-commerce and loyalty data into Microsoft Fabric and OneLake
Write PySpark and SQL transformations for customer, transaction and loyalty entities
Build the customer data model: customer profiles, identity keys, transactions, loyalty and engagement
Implement customer matching and deduplication rules (loyalty ID, email, phone)
Build automated data quality checks and tests into every pipeline
Turn written specs into working pipelines, and flag early when a spec can’t be built as written
Prepare clean, documented data feeds for a customer engagement platform
Document your work: source-to-target mappings, the data dictionary and runbooks
Join team syncs and some end-client calls during the US overlap window. You won’t need to lead the calls
Senior: review pull requests, guide engineers on design and code quality, and work directly with the US CTO and customer data consultant
Must Have
3+ years in data engineering (Senior: 6+ years)
Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience (Lakehouse, Data Factory pipelines, notebooks), or Azure Synapse / Databricks with Azure Data Factory and a clear path to Fabric
Strong PySpark and SQL
Experience testing data quality and debugging pipelines
Git workflow, and working from tickets and written specs
Clear written and spoken English
Senior: solid data modeling for analytics, ERP/CRM integration (ideally Dynamics 365), customer data matching/deduplication/MDM, and CI/CD for data pipelines
Nice to Have
Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700)
Microsoft Dynamics 365 data
Retail or e-commerce data: POS, e-commerce orders (e.g. Shopify), loyalty programs
Databricks
Power BI semantic models
Experience leading or mentoring engineers
Working with personal data under privacy rules (masking, access controls, audit)
Contract & Work Setup
Remote full-time role (Independent Contractor / Service Contract)
Candidates must be based in Indonesia
Fully remote, no relocation required
2–3 hours of overlap with US Eastern mornings (around 8:00–11:00 PM WIB), not necessarily every day
6-month contract to start, extendable. Long-term collaboration expected (2–3+ years)
This is an independent contractor engagement, not a local full-time employee position

You must use your own laptop and a stable internet connection
