Master Thesis, 30 hp: Develop and map product line model to CP-SAT

Background
With complex configurable products, Saab investigates a new approach to manage the complexity of product variability. The challenge is to develop and maintain a large set of buildable, testable, verifiable and documented products from reusable components where hardware, firmware and software develops continuously without having a combinatoric explosion of tests to run.
Description of the Thesis Project
It has been identified that the problem resembles K-SAT or CP-SAT, but there is a need to formally define an abstract product structure domain and map all possible constructs to the well-known and well-researched K-SAT domain. From there, there is both the challenge of communicating this model to functions/users within Saab with varying levels of understanding regarding advanced algorithms, as well as the technical challenge of building and evaluating the model from a diverse set of data sources and data models. The existing datasets of product structures, requirements, tests and documentation needs to be mapped to the model developed during the thesis. Different approaches to late evaluation in air-gapped environments, and partial early evaluation to reduce the amount of information shared through the model may be investigated. We expect commercial or free CP-SAT solvers (such as googles OR-tools) will suffice to solve this, but have yet to benchmark this against real-world data. This is a chance to combine advanced algorithms, complex systems, challenging development environments, academic rigor and practical engineering.
Your profile
The project is suitable for two students with an interest in discrete optimization and product line engineering. You are in the final stage of a Computer Science master programme or equivalent and are about to begin a 30 hp thesis project. You are familiar with NP-completeness, K-SAT/3-SAT and software engineering in general.
