Role Description This is a part-time, remote freelance/contract role for an experienced engineer with 7+ years working with Java, Scala, and React. The professional in this role will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Scala, and build responsive, user-focused interfaces using React. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean, testable code, reviewing and refactoring existing solutions, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance across the stack. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, participating in technical discussions, and aligning deliverables with client requirements and project milestones. The contractor will manage their own schedule within agreed timelines and provide regular updates on progress and risks.

Qualifications
Strong backend development skills in Java and Scala, including building RESTful services and integrating with databases.
Front-end development experience with React (and related tools or libraries) for building modern, responsive web interfaces.
Proficiency in software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
Experience with version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows.
Ability to write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and to work with testing frameworks and tools.
Comfort with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization or orchestration tools is beneficial.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a remote, contractual setting.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with distributed teams and clients, and for documenting technical decisions.
7+ years of professional software development experience; a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but equivalent experience is valued.
