## Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on **Lead Software Architect & .NET Technical Lead** to take ownership of enterprise SaaS architecture, multi-tenant database design, backend development, and technical team leadership.
This is a combined role requiring expertise in both **Solution Architecture and .NET Software Development**.
During the initial phase, the selected professional will focus on designing the complete technical architecture, database structure, multi-tenancy strategy, security framework, and foundational backend components.
Following the initial architecture phase, the individual will transition primarily into hands-on .NET development and technical leadership, overseeing the engineering team, developing complex backend components, reviewing code, and ensuring successful implementation.
The candidate will continue to own architectural decisions, system scalability, security, and technical standards throughout the development lifecycle.
We are specifically seeking someone who has previously architected and personally contributed to the development of production-grade, multi-tenant SaaS or enterprise applications.
## Key Responsibilities
### 1. Solution Architecture & System Design
- Design secure, scalable, high-performance, multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
- Define the overall system architecture, application layers, service boundaries, and backend structure.
- Evaluate shared-database, database-per-tenant, and hybrid multi-tenancy models.
- Design tenant provisioning, identification, lifecycle management, and isolation mechanisms.
- Establish separation between platform-level services and tenant-specific business data.
- Define authentication, authorization, organizational hierarchy, and access-control architecture.
- Select appropriate architectural patterns, including modular monolith and microservices where justified.
- Design REST API standards, integration patterns, logging, monitoring, and error-handling strategies.
- Prepare architecture diagrams, database designs, ERDs, and technical documentation.
- Ensure architectural decisions support long-term scalability, maintainability, cost efficiency, and security.
### 2. Database Architecture & Multi-Tenancy
- Design and implement SQL Server / Azure SQL Database architecture.
- Define database schemas, entity relationships, constraints, indexing, and data-integrity rules.
- Establish secure tenant isolation across database queries, APIs, background services, and reporting.
- Implement tenant-aware data-access mechanisms using Entity Framework Core.
- Evaluate and implement Row-Level Security, tenant scoping, and defense-in-depth controls where appropriate.
- Design database migration, versioning, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Optimize SQL queries, stored procedures where necessary, indexing, and database performance.
- Implement concurrency controls, transactions, and safeguards against duplicate or inconsistent records.
- Design secure approaches for bulk imports, data migrations, and high-volume transactions.
- Ensure tenant-specific information cannot be exposed to unauthorized users or other organizations.
### 3. Hands-On .NET Backend Development
- Lead and actively participate in backend development using C#, ASP.NET Core, and .NET 8+.
- Establish application structure, coding standards, reusable components, and development guidelines.
- Design, develop, and maintain secure REST APIs and backend services.
- Implement authentication, authorization, tenant-aware middleware, and access-control policies.
- Develop complex business logic, workflows, validation rules, and backend modules.
- Implement Entity Framework Core, LINQ, asynchronous programming, and optimized database operations.
- Develop background processing services, event-driven workflows, and notification mechanisms.
- Implement audit trails, application logging, exception handling, and monitoring.
- Ensure robust transaction handling, concurrency management, and idempotent operations.
- Troubleshoot complex application issues, security vulnerabilities, and performance bottlenecks.
- Write production-quality code and ensure effective unit and integration test coverage.
### 4. Azure Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure
- Design and guide application infrastructure on Microsoft Azure.
- Work with Azure App Service, Azure Container Apps, and other relevant hosting services.
- Configure and integrate Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Key Vault.
- Design asynchronous processing using Azure Service Bus or equivalent technologies.
- Establish monitoring through Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
- Implement secure application configurations, encryption, and secrets management.
- Guide CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Define deployment strategies, environment separation, backup, rollback, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Optimize application performance, infrastructure utilization, reliability, and cloud costs.
### 5. Authentication, Authorization & Security
- Design and implement secure authentication and authorization frameworks.
- Work with Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
- Implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), policy-based authorization, and granular permissions.
- Establish organization-level, team-level, assignment-level, and record-level access controls.
- Ensure secure tenant identification and validation on every applicable request.
- Implement audit logging, sensitive-data protection, and secure file-access mechanisms.
- Apply OWASP principles, secure coding standards, and enterprise security best practices.
- Design automated security and tenant-isolation tests.
### 6. Technical Leadership & Engineering Management
- Lead and guide backend developers throughout the development lifecycle.
- Translate approved functional requirements into technical designs, development tasks, and implementation plans.
- Allocate technical tasks and establish development priorities.
- Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and technical quality assessments.
- Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices.
- Ensure adherence to architectural guidelines, coding standards, and security requirements.
- Resolve development blockers and make critical technical decisions.
- Coordinate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps, Business Analysts, and Product Owners.
- Oversee backend implementation, database integration, API development, and technical delivery.
- Participate in sprint planning, technical estimation, development tracking, and release preparation.
- Remain hands-on in coding while providing technical leadership and architectural oversight.
### 7. Quality Assurance, Performance & Production Readiness
- Establish automated unit, integration, API, and security testing practices.
- Define testing strategies for tenant isolation, authorization, data integrity, and concurrency.
- Review database performance and optimize slow queries and critical workflows.
- Ensure appropriate logging, observability, tracing, and diagnostics.
- Establish technical quality gates for code reviews and deployments.
- Support production deployments, troubleshooting, incident investigation, and continuous improvement.
