Mechanical Designer

Role Description
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing mechanical designs, preparing technical drawings, and creating detailed engineering models to support the design, development, and production of mechanical components, equipment, and systems. This role combines computer-aided design, technical documentation, design evaluation, material selection, and engineering coordination to ensure that mechanical solutions meet functional requirements, quality standards, and project specifications.
Design responsibilities include interpreting design briefs, technical specifications, engineering requirements, and project documentation to develop suitable mechanical concepts. The designer creates detailed two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional models using computer-aided design software. Duties also include preparing assembly drawings, component layouts, dimensional specifications, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials. The role ensures that designs consider functionality, structural integrity, manufacturability, material efficiency, and ease of assembly while following applicable engineering standards and internal design procedures.
Technical development responsibilities involve evaluating mechanical components, selecting appropriate materials, reviewing component dimensions, and assessing design feasibility. The designer collaborates with engineering teams to refine concepts, resolve design issues, and incorporate technical feedback into updated drawings and models. Additional duties include conducting basic engineering calculations, reviewing tolerances, checking component compatibility, and supporting prototype development or product testing activities. The role also assists with identifying design improvements that enhance performance, reduce material waste, simplify manufacturing, and improve product reliability.
Documentation and quality responsibilities include maintaining accurate design files, updating revision records, preparing technical specifications, and ensuring that drawings reflect approved design changes. The designer reviews documentation for dimensional accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements. Duties also include organizing design libraries, maintaining component records, preparing engineering reports, and coordinating document approvals. The role supports quality control activities by addressing drawing discrepancies, incorporating corrective revisions, and ensuring that the latest approved design information is available to relevant teams.
The position works closely with mechanical engineers, manufacturing personnel, product development teams, suppliers, and project coordinators to ensure that design requirements are clearly understood and properly implemented. The designer participates in technical discussions, provides design clarification, monitors assigned tasks, and supports the resolution of manufacturing or assembly challenges. Through accurate modeling, systematic design documentation, and effective engineering collaboration, the role contributes to product quality, manufacturing efficiency, technical consistency, and continuous improvement in mechanical design processes.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, component design, manufacturing processes, and engineering drawing standards.
Ability to create and interpret two-dimensional engineering drawings and three-dimensional mechanical models.
Familiarity with computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or similar platforms.
Knowledge of dimensioning, geometric tolerances, material specifications, assembly requirements, and bill of materials preparation.
Understanding of mechanical components, manufacturing methods, material selection, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
Ability to review technical specifications, identify design inconsistencies, and incorporate engineering feedback.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills when evaluating design feasibility and mechanical functionality.
