Role Description
The AutoCAD Draftsman is responsible for preparing, developing, and maintaining accurate technical drawings, layouts, and design documentation using computer-aided design software. This role supports engineering, architectural, construction, and design activities by translating technical specifications, sketches, and conceptual ideas into detailed drawings that meet project requirements and established drafting standards.
Drafting responsibilities include creating two-dimensional drawings, plans, elevations, sections, details, and technical layouts using AutoCAD and other relevant design software. The draftsman interprets sketches, written instructions, design specifications, and technical information to produce clear and precise drawings. Duties also include updating existing drawings, modifying dimensions, adjusting layouts, adding annotations, and ensuring that all technical details are presented accurately and consistently.
Design coordination responsibilities involve working with engineers, architects, designers, project coordinators, and other relevant stakeholders to understand drawing requirements and clarify technical details. The draftsman assists with preparing preliminary layouts, incorporating design revisions, coordinating drawing updates, and ensuring that changes are reflected in the appropriate documentation. Additional duties include reviewing drawings for dimensional accuracy, checking alignment with project specifications, identifying inconsistencies, and communicating potential drafting issues to the relevant team members.
Documentation responsibilities include maintaining organized drawing files, managing revisions, applying consistent naming conventions, and ensuring that the latest approved drawings are available to authorized personnel. The draftsman prepares drawing packages, updates drawing registers, organizes reference materials, and supports the preparation of technical documentation for project reviews and implementation. The role also involves converting files into required formats, maintaining digital archives, and following established document control procedures to ensure accuracy and traceability.
The position works closely with technical teams and project stakeholders to support design development, drawing reviews, and project coordination. The draftsman monitors assigned drafting tasks, incorporates feedback, meets submission deadlines, and helps maintain consistent drawing quality throughout the project lifecycle. Through accurate technical drafting, effective design coordination, and systematic document management, the role contributes to clear technical communication, efficient project execution, and reliable design documentation.
Qualifications
Diploma, certificate, or degree in Drafting, Engineering Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating, editing, and maintaining technical drawings.
Understanding of technical drawing conventions, dimensions, scales, symbols, layers, and annotation standards.
Ability to interpret sketches, design specifications, engineering information, and architectural plans.
Knowledge of two-dimensional drafting and familiarity with three-dimensional modeling concepts.
Ability to prepare floor plans, elevations, sections, layouts, and detailed technical drawings according to project requirements.
Familiarity with drawing revision procedures, file management, and technical documentation standards.
Strong attention to detail when checking dimensions, alignments, annotations, and drawing consistency.
Good written and verbal communication skills for coordinating technical requirements and design changes.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities when handling multiple drawings and deadlines.
