About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with the product designer and engineering teams to break down unstructured industrial fabrication workflows into clear interaction flows, defining semantic context, empty states, and error recovery paths before engineering starts.
Spend time understanding shop floor operations, looking at physical constraints like heavy glare, smudged screens, and gloved hands, then translating those into clean software touch targets and strong visual hierarchy.
Maintain and grow our design system (Ferrum Design System) in Figma, setting up clear components, states, and token variants across desktop, mobile, and kiosk surfaces.
Design, build out UI branches, and raise pull requests on GitHub using AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code to ship polished frontend experiences.
Design practical human in the loop interactions for our AI features.
Help run design QA on staging builds to make sure what gets deployed actually matches the design system, spacing, and interaction details.
Put our core design principles into daily practice: respect the physical shop environment, match familiar mental models like ledgers and BOM trees, keep cognitive load low, and make user mistakes easily reversible with undo flows.
Requirements & Qualifications
2 to 4 years of experience in product or interaction design, with a solid grounding in HCI, human factors, or design fundamentals.
Comfortable breaking down data heavy tools, multi level tables, and complex forms into clear layouts without overwhelming the user.
Strong everyday Figma skills with auto layout, component variants, variable modes, and token libraries.
Basic development literacy with git and GitHub, comfortable creating branches, running local setups, using AI coding tools to test UI, and opening PRs.
Solid understanding of frontend basics, knowing how flex, grid, and CSS box models behave so designs translate smoothly into code.
Active user of AI tools like Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT, with good judgment on where models fail or produce unusable UI.
Nice to Haves
Working familiarity with React component structures and modern frontend tooling.
Past experience designing for shop kiosks, warehouse tech, or field hardware.
