About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Location: The Midlands, UK (Remote / Field-based with UK-wide client travel)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Industry: Recruitment, Temporary Staffing & Workforce Solutions
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of an established UK staffing and workforce solutions business entering an exciting new phase of commercial growth.
The company is looking for an experienced, hands-on Business Development Manager, ideally based in the Midlands, to drive new client acquisition, secure significant staffing contracts and help shape its UK commercial strategy.
This is not a traditional sales role with a fully established playbook. You will have the opportunity to influence the company's target markets, commercial positioning, service offering and sales processes while working closely with senior leadership.
The business provides operational and strategic support, including marketing, market research and recruitment delivery, allowing you to focus on developing new business and building commercially sustainable client partnerships.
Your Responsibilities
Identify, develop and win new business opportunities across the UK temporary staffing and workforce solutions market.
Build and convert a pipeline of medium-sized and larger organisations with significant workforce requirements.
Own the complete sales cycle, from prospecting and client discovery through to proposals, negotiation and contract closure.
Develop relationships with senior decision-makers across HR, Procurement, Operations and business leadership.
Lead commercial discussions around staffing models, pricing, contract structures and long-term workforce solutions.
Collaborate with internal teams on proposals, tenders and commercially viable client solutions.
Contribute to the development of the company's go-to-market strategy, ideal client profiles and commercial value proposition.
Establish effective sales processes, CRM management, pipeline reporting and forecasting.
Work closely with the recruitment delivery team to ensure successful implementation and handover of new contracts.
What We're Looking For
Essential experience:
Proven experience in business development or sales within temporary staffing, workforce solutions, HR outsourcing or managed workforce services.
A strong track record of personally originating and winning new business contracts in the UK.
Experience managing complex B2B sales cycles and engaging multiple stakeholders.
Ability to demonstrate significant contract wins, including commercial value, workforce scale or operational complexity.
Strong commercial judgement, negotiation skills and understanding of profitable contract structures.
A proactive, hands-on approach to new business development, with the ability to build opportunities independently.
Experience managing a sales pipeline, CRM and commercial forecasts.
Willingness to travel across the UK for client meetings.
Desirable experience:
Selling staffing solutions into manufacturing, industrial, logistics, automotive or other labour-intensive sectors.
Experience with onsite staffing, managed service, MSP, RPO or similar workforce models.
An established network of UK client relationships.
Experience helping develop a new sales function, commercial strategy or go-to-market approach.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
Build, don't just sell: Help shape the direction of a growing UK commercial operation, rather than simply following an existing sales model.
Real commercial ownership: Influence target markets, positioning, client acquisition strategy and the development of new service offerings.
Direct leadership access: Work closely with the business owner and senior commercial leadership.
Operational support: Benefit from established recruitment delivery capabilities and marketing support.
Long-term growth: Opportunity to develop your remit and potentially build a wider commercial team as the business expands.
Flexible working: Remote and field-based role, ideally based in the Midlands, with regular client meetings across the UK.
Benefits
Competitive base salary with a commission or bonus structure to be confirmed.
20 days of annual leave plus UK bank holidays, increasing to 25 days plus bank holidays following successful completion of probation.
