Job Description: KP Operator – Cartridge Packaging

Job Summary
The KP Operator is responsible for operating KP (cartridge packaging) machinery to pack cartridges efficiently, safely, and in accordance with quality and production standards. The role involves machine setup, operation, monitoring, routine maintenance, and accurate recording of production output, while ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality protocols.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation
Set up, start, and operate KP cartridge packaging machines as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Load cartridges, packaging materials, and consumables into the machine correctly.
Adjust machine settings (speed, alignment, sealing parameters) to meet packaging specifications.
Monitor machine performance continuously and ensure smooth, uninterrupted operation.
Shut down and clean the machine at the end of the shift as per procedures.
2. Quality Control
Inspect packaged cartridges for correct packing, sealing, labeling, and appearance.
Check that output meets quality standards and specifications; reject and segregate defective products.
Perform routine quality checks (dimensions, count, weight, seal integrity) and record results.
Report quality issues or non-conformances to the supervisor immediately.
3. Production & Output Management
Achieve daily production targets while maintaining quality standards.
Record production output per machine and per shift accurately.
Monitor material consumption and report shortages or excess usage.
Minimize wastage of cartridges and packaging materials.
4. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform routine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance of the KP machine.
Identify and resolve minor machine faults; escalate major breakdowns to the maintenance team.
Assist maintenance technicians during repairs and servicing.
Ensure machine is in safe working condition before operation.
5. Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and site safety rules.
Ensure safe handling of cartridges and packaging materials at all times.
Maintain a clean and organized work area (housekeeping/5S).
Report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
6. Documentation & Shift Handover
Maintain accurate logbooks, production records, and machine checklists.
Complete shift handover with the incoming operator, highlighting machine status and pending issues.
Reconcile materials and output at the end of the shift.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; ITI/technical certificate in mechanical/electrical fields is a plus.
Experience: [X]+ years of experience operating packaging machines; experience in cartridge/ammunition/explosives packaging is preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
Ability to operate and troubleshoot packaging machinery.
Attention to detail and quality awareness.
Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine controls.
Good communication skills in English and Swahili (if applicable).
Ability to work in shifts and meet production targets.
Certifications (preferred): Machine operation training, safety training.
Working Conditions
Work in a production/packaging environment with machinery noise and moving parts.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Standing for extended periods; repetitive tasks.
Shift work (day/night rotation) as per company policy.
