About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Help Build the Digital Infrastructure That Helps Us Serve Animals
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” — Colossians 3:23
The Animal Cause, Inc. is building a volunteer-powered Christian animal-welfare organization designed to help vulnerable animals move from crisis toward safety, care, visibility, and responsible placement.
Our website is an important part of that mission. It is where someone may encounter an animal who needs a home, learn about our programs, decide to volunteer, become a partner, or support our work financially.
We are building a Digital Infrastructure & Website Team to develop, maintain, and improve the digital systems that support these activities.
Our immediate need includes volunteers with practical Google Sites experience who can help build and organize our website, improve navigation and page layouts, create useful landing pages, and establish repeatable processes for maintaining the site.
We also welcome volunteers with complementary skills in user experience, content organization, forms, integrations, SEO, analytics, accessibility, quality assurance, and related digital functions.
This is not a one-person webmaster position. We are recruiting multiple volunteers with complementary skills, assigning work according to experience, availability, organizational priorities, and readiness.
You do not need to know everything. You do need to be willing to contribute your expertise, communicate consistently, and work collaboratively.
What We Need Most: Google Sites Expertise
The Animal Cause is developing its website using Google Sites. We are particularly interested in volunteers who have built, maintained, organized, or improved websites using this platform.
Depending on your experience, you may help with:
Building and editing Google Sites pages and page layouts.
Organizing site navigation, menus, page hierarchy, and content structure.
Improving mobile presentation, readability, and user experience.
Creating clear pathways for donors, volunteers, fosters, adopters, and organizational partners.
Developing campaign, fundraising, program, and volunteer-recruitment landing pages.
Embedding and testing Google Forms and other approved resources.
Working with relevant Google Workspace tools and approved integrations.
Reviewing buttons, links, forms, embedded content, and other website functions.
Organizing images, page content, calls to action, and supporting materials.
Reviewing existing pages for outdated, duplicated, unclear, or missing information.
Documenting page structures, editing procedures, and maintenance practices.
Helping establish consistent standards for future website development.
Experience with custom domains, DNS, Google Workspace, analytics, or conversion tracking is also valuable where relevant to the assignment. These are complementary skills, not requirements for every team member.
We recognize that Google Sites has its own capabilities and limitations. We need volunteers who can work effectively within the platform, identify practical solutions, and distinguish what can be accomplished directly in Google Sites from what may require another approved tool or a different approach.
Complementary Digital Skills
We also welcome volunteers who can contribute in one or more related areas:
Website user experience and interface design (UX/UI).
Content strategy and information architecture.
Accessibility and usability testing.
Search engine optimization (SEO).
Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
Google Search Console.
Google Tag Manager and conversion tracking.
Website quality assurance and troubleshooting.
Forms, integrations, and digital workflows.
HTML/CSS or other relevant technical skills.
Graphic design and image optimization.
Content management and documentation.
Domain, DNS, and website administration.
Technical project coordination.
Experience with WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, or another website platform may be useful, but Google Sites experience is especially relevant to our immediate needs.
You do not need every skill listed. Tell us where you are strongest and what you can contribute now.
What We Are Building
The website must do more than present information. It needs to help people understand The Animal Cause, find the next step relevant to them, and engage with the organization without unnecessary confusion.
Our website and digital infrastructure should help support:
Fundraising: Clear giving opportunities and campaign-specific landing pages.
Volunteer development: Understandable opportunities, application pathways, and calls to action.
Animal visibility: Clear presentation of animals and relevant placement information.
Foster and rescue support: Information and pathways for people and organizations interested in helping.
Partnership development: Clear explanations of how shelters, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations may engage with us.
Program visibility: Organized information about current programs and services.
Public awareness: An accessible introduction to our mission, work, and organizational priorities.
Measurement and improvement: Appropriate tools and processes to understand whether website pathways function as intended.
The immediate priority is to improve the website and its supporting digital infrastructure in line with current organizational needs and available capacity. Future ideas will be evaluated and developed as resources and readiness allow.
We are not building infrastructure for its own sake. We are building tools that support the work.
The Team Model
The Animal Cause is intentionally developing specialized volunteer teams rather than expecting one person to perform every digital function.
Depending on the assignment, you may collaborate with volunteers working in:
Digital Infrastructure & Website Development
Digital Media and Content Production
Graphic Design
Communications and Marketing
Fundraising and Philanthropic Development
Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination
Animal Programs and Services
Mercy Stage
The Shepherd’s Ark
Technology and AI
Project Management and Execution
Assignments will be defined according to demonstrated skills, realistic availability, organizational priorities, and required approvals.
A project may have a designated lead, but volunteers will not be expected to carry the entire digital function themselves.
Our goal is to build systems, documentation, and repeatable processes that can be maintained and handed forward—not systems dependent on one person’s memory or availability.
What We Need From You
We are looking for someone who:
Has experience using Google Sites or a related digital skill relevant to an identified assignment.
Can work independently while communicating effectively with the team.
Thinks about the needs of the person using the website, not just the person building it.
Pays attention to detail and tests work before publication.
Can identify problems and recommend practical solutions.
Is willing to document decisions, changes, and procedures.
Can work within defined permissions and approval processes.
Communicates progress, questions, and blockers promptly.
Respects organizational confidentiality, account security, and intellectual property.
Can make a realistic commitment and follow through.
Wants to use professional or developing skills in service of a meaningful mission.
Professional experience is valuable. Character, reliability, judgment, stewardship, and willingness to learn matter as well.
A Critical Part of This Role: Stewardship
The Animal Cause is entrusted with organizational information, donor and volunteer relationships, digital accounts, intellectual property, and other resources. We take those responsibilities seriously.
Volunteers will receive only the access necessary for their assigned work. Administrator access is not automatically provided.
Live-site changes, integrations, purchases, domain or platform changes, and other consequential actions require appropriate authorization. Volunteers should not independently change account ownership, access permissions, DNS settings, or production systems without approval.
