Summary
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee a global product design function supporting single-use products and systems for bioprocessing applications. This role will lead the design engineering team, establish global CAD and design standards, and drive the accuracy and speed of drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs). The Director will also oversee engineering data integrity, design controls, product change management, and the implementation of design tools and systems while providing technical expertise to internal teams and customers.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a global engineering design team responsible for CAD, drawings, BOMs, product configuration, and related technical documentation.
Establish and continuously improve global CAD standards, templates, design libraries, SOPs, work instructions, and training while leading deployment of 3D CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
Translate customer, Sales, and Product Management requirements into clearly defined product designs and serve as the primary design engineering resource for major customer RFPs and complex technical requests.
Review mechanical designs, drawings, schematics, specifications, and product measurements; lead design reviews and FMEA-based risk assessments and drive appropriate risk mitigation.
Drive drawing and BOM throughput, prioritization, accuracy, and turnaround times while establishing and monitoring engineering KPIs and performance targets.
Ensure designs are fully documented and compliant with customer requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulations, including drawings, BOMs, schematics, procedures, and engineering change controls.
Partner with R&D, New Product Introduction, Manufacturing, and other functions to incorporate Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA) and Design to Cost (DTC) principles into product development.
Own engineering data integrity and assigned product data across PDM and ERP systems, including item master creation, product configuration, document control, and product change management.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Engineers and Drafters, support material and component selection, and manage departmental resources and budget.
Required Skills
10+ years of overall Engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineering teams, with demonstrated experience staffing, developing, and performance-managing technical organizations.
Specific experience designing and developing single-use consumables and working with multiple bioprocessing equipment suppliers is required.
Expert hands-on experience with SolidWorks CAD in both 2D and 3D, including creation and interpretation of engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Strong knowledge of plastic component and tooling design, particularly injection molding, with exposure to blow molding; experience with design controls, change controls, risk management/FMEA, DFMA, and DTC.
Experience implementing or working extensively with PDM and ERP systems (ideally SyteLine), engineering data management, product configuration, item masters, and change management; strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish engineering goals and KPIs, manage multiple priorities and deadlines, and provide credible technical design expertise in customer-facing situations.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
If remote, willingness to travel to California 50% of the time initially then taper down to 25% ongoing.
H1 sponsorship is not available.
