About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

O&M Site Manager
Location: London, Greenwich with occasional site visits further afield
Hemiko
Hemiko is a fast-growing innovative business which designs, builds, operates, maintains and finances low carbon district energy networks and building energy systems for communities. We work with local authorities, developers, house builders and property owners to reduce costs, energy consumption and carbon emissions through innovative design and proactive, intelligence-led system operations and optimisation.
With the decarbonisation of our heating systems now becoming a national imperative we are experiencing rapid growth in demand for the design, build, operation, and maintenance of low carbon district heating systems and for the decarbonization of existing building heating systems, especially to replace distributed fossil fuel heating with centralised low carbon heat generation.
Hemiko is absolutely committed to an honest and collaborative approach to all our work, to being innovative in everything we do, always looking for better ways to do things and on avoiding the business curses of unnecessary complexity and silos.
We appreciate that no one’s circumstances are the same and having the flexibility in working environments work is essential to our wellbeing. If this is significant to you let us know when you apply, and we will discuss how this could work in your role.
Hemiko strives to be an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from anyone regardless of ethnic origin, gender, gender expression, disability, age, trade union activity, marital status, religious belief, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
We are Armed Forces friendly. We welcome applications from ex-Armed Forces personnel, reservists, armed forces veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses/partners.
The Role
Your lead responsibility will be to provide management of sites and operational projects to ensure all sites are operating well. Projects will range from single-site plant room and energy centre installations (including heat pump systems) or servicing through to large new build and retrofit district heating schemes.
The compact nature of the business and our rapid growth means that the candidate has significant opportunity to develop their career in a friendly environment. We are looking to develop teams of engineers that will be able to grow into designing a variety of energy related systems. It is anticipated, therefore, that the candidate would be seeking to broaden their skills horizon.
This position will differ from conventional management in that you will be given the opportunity to ‘own’ a project from adoption through to operation with involvement in pricing from bid stage through to ongoing O&M.
Specific Tasks
Participating in the delivery of new energy projects during the pre-construction, build and operational phases, working with and supported by the wider Hemiko Team. In more detail this will include:
Responsible for the safe, compliant and effective operation of a portfolio of heat network sites across London and further afield. For the sites that you manage, you will be responsible for delivering the following (but not limited to);
Setting up procedures and processes for new heat networks as they come across into the operational phase, either through adopting live contracts or new build sites.
Ensuring high availability and efficiency through a spare parts strategy, remote monitoring (BMS/SCADA) and data analysis, with a focus on reducing heat losses and network return temperatures.
Pro-actively manage and build our client and customer relationships with regards to day to day running of the sites and attendance to any regular client reporting meetings.
Ensuring sites meet the requirements of the Ofgem heat network regulatory regime, including consumer protection, fair pricing, service standards and the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS), and preparing sites for assessment.
Leading health and safety on site, including risk assessments, method statements, permits to work and contractor management, in line with CDM and statutory inspection requirements.
Supporting the integration of low carbon heat sources, such as heat pumps, into new and existing networks and the decarbonisation of legacy plant.
Responsible for delivery of any specialist services and call out contracts, as well as general supply chain activities.
Responsible for operational budgets & reporting against business KPI’s. This will include scoping up corrective works for system improvements and any potential breakdowns.
Assistance in the identifying areas to improve operational performance and management of subsequent energy centre upgrade works.
Continually improve operating procedures and ensure they are being adhered to.
Support the development of new customer offers with technical, operational, and pricing input.
Candidate
We are looking for someone with a good knowledge of district heating schemes, from generation to distribution as well as plant controls & processes. The candidate will need to ensure that all plant is maintained according to planned maintenance schedules, and the sites are running as reliably and efficiently as possible. The candidate will be responsible to run a commercially successful fleet of heat networks, with support from the rest of the department. The candidate will need excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, ensuring a customer focus within all areas of operational activities, and that effective relationships are maintained with key client contacts.
The candidate will be organised and self-starting, a reliable figurehead in the operations team. They will inspire a performance-centred culture across both the operations department and wider company.
We will want you to join our journey toward a more environmentally and technically responsible and effective way of delivering energy systems, moving away from conventional processes into a more innovative and free-thinking environment.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Technical qualifications in an engineering/ operations management or related discipline to degree level and / or equivalent experience relevant to the role.
Proven experience in the operation of heat networks or large building services plant, including heat pumps, thermal stores, CHP, gas and biomass boilers, and energy centres.
