About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

We see a world where every engineer has a Secondmind: helping them make design and performance decisions with confidence, in a world of ever-increasing complexity.
Overview
Secondmind builds data-efficient Engineering AI software that helps teams make better design and performance decisions faster. Our Active Learning system helps engineers calibrate and explore the design space of increasingly complex physical systems, reducing simulation and testing requirements without compromising quality.
As our Senior Technical Solutions Engineer, you'll support and expand our automotive, off-highway and engine customer base across Europe, helping customers evaluate, adopt and realise value from our AI-driven Design Space Exploration and Calibration solutions.
About the role
Secondmind was founded in 2016 and is backed by Mazda Motor Corporation, Amadeus Capital, Atlantic Bridge and Cambridge Innovation Capital. We have anchor customers in passenger vehicles and commercial power systems, and a growing pipeline of evaluation and proof-of-concept engagements.
This is a customer-facing technical role. Working closely with Account Executives, ML Engineers and Product teams, you'll deliver demonstrations of the Secondmind software, lead technical evaluations and PoCs, and provide customer training and frontline technical support.
PoCs are how customers move to long-term licences, so this role plays a key part in customer adoption, technical success and long-term growth.
What you’ll do
Lead pre-sales and frontline customer support engagements, including discovery workshops, solution mapping and tailored product demonstrations.
Assess technical fit on customer problems, including current workflows, constraints and effort required, then scope and lead the evaluation, PoC or pilot.
Identify opportunities to apply our platform across the engineering V-cycle, in automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway and powertrain development.
Work with sales leadership to develop and deliver technical presentations, proposals, demonstrations and supporting collateral.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers through onboarding, deployment and adoption.
Feed customer insight back to Product Management and ML Engineering to influence features and roadmap priorities.
Represent Secondmind at customer meetings, industry conferences and technical workshops across Europe.
What would make you thrive in this role
You combine deep technical credibility with genuine enjoyment of customer-facing work. You're comfortable leading workshops, running demos, and explaining AI and calibration concepts to both engineers and executives.
You're curious about customer problems and would rather prove value through hands-on PoCs and pilots than just pitch. You're as comfortable working with our ML and Product teams as you are representing us at conferences and customer sites.
You bring a consultative, trusted-advisor mindset, you're at home in the pace of a growing company, and you take real satisfaction in seeing a customer succeed because of your technical guidance.
What you'll bring
We care more about what you've done than about qualifications or years in a title. If you meet most of these but not all, we'd still like to hear from you.
Essential
Hands-on engine or powertrain calibration experience, including model-based calibration, DoE and optimization, using tools such as ETAS INCA, ETAS ASCMO or AVL CAMEO.
Proven experience in a technical role in automotive, commercial vehicle, powertrain or off-highway engineering, including the use of CAE tools.
Customer-facing technical experience, such as pre-sales, solutions or applications engineering, or technical consulting.
Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
Proven ability to assess technical fit on unfamiliar customer problems and judge what is worth attempting.
Desirable
Experience applying machine learning to engineering optimization or design exploration, such as surrogate modelling or Bayesian optimization.
Familiarity with engine simulation and CAE tools such as GT-SUITE or Simcenter.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience (Master's preferred).
