A 24-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) responsible for neurosurgical, neurotrauma and medical surgical patients with required proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring, recognition and treatment of acute patient deterioration, varied postoperative management. Qualified staff trained in Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), External Ventricular Drains (EVDs), Massive Transfusion Protocols (MTP), Malignant Hyperthermia Protocols, and Post-Cardiac Arrests. Henry Ford Providence Southfield is an accredited teaching institution; ICU is privileged to work with a multidisciplinary team and incorporate all specialties into our daily care, including Intensivists, Nurse Practitioners, Critical Care Fellows, Residents, Social Workers, Case Managers, Dietitians, Speech Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.
Role Overview
As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse to perform specific patient care duties, ensuring safety and comfort. You will assist in planning and implementing patient care, respond to emergent situations, and actively participate in your own continuing education. This role is essential in supporting the nursing team and providing high-quality care to our patients.

What You Will Do
Assist the Registered Nurse in planning and implementing patient care using the nursing process.
Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs.
Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
Provide input to the RN to enhance patient care plans.
Participate in continuing education to advance your nursing skills and knowledge.
SCHEDULE: Contingent, as needed, 12-hour shift
LOCATION: Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital

What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent OR currently enrolled in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations.
Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing with completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg in an acute care setting.
Current Health Care Provider Certification.
