About The Role
BCforward is seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer for a 2-month contract opportunity in Cincinnati, Ohio. In this role, you will design, build, and support secure enterprise applications and cloud-native solutions. You will apply deep Java and J2EE expertise alongside AWS services and Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code to deliver scalable, reliable systems. The position calls for a hands-on technical leader who can make sound architectural decisions, collaborate with stakeholders, and support the development of other engineers. The successful candidate will bring strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a changing, delivery-focused environment.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex enterprise applications using Java and J2EE. Build and maintain services with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security, applying established design patterns and microservices best practices. Architect and implement cloud solutions using AWS services, including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, and API Gateway. Develop and maintain Terraform configurations to provision and manage AWS infrastructure consistently and securely.
Design, develop, and consume RESTful and SOAP web services, with attention to performance, security, reliability, and scalability. Work with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DynamoDB. Collaborate with product owners, architects, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, assess options, and turn business needs into actionable technical plans. Provide technical leadership, contribute to architectural decisions, establish development practices, and promote high-quality code through reviews and constructive feedback.
Mentor junior engineers and encourage continuous learning across the team. Troubleshoot complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions that support system stability and performance. Participate in agile delivery and CI/CD processes, using Git and team workflows to support dependable releases. Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and engineering practices, and recommend improvements that can strengthen delivery and application quality.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have at least nine years of Java/J2EE development experience focused on enterprise applications, expert-level Java skills, and substantial hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security. Extensive AWS experience and a strong understanding of cloud-native architectures are required, as is demonstrated experience designing and implementing Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code.
Applicants should have experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful and SOAP services; a strong grasp of microservices architecture and design patterns; and experience with relational and NoSQL databases. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and agile methodologies is expected. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities are important. Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging patterns, containers, or orchestration tools is an advantage.

BCforward provides access to opportunities with global clients, exposure to current technologies and projects, and a supportive, inclusive culture. Eligible compensation and benefits are subject to the terms of the applicable employment arrangement.
