Class C Mechanic

This entry level position interacts with fellow employees, requires continual supervision as the tasks are many of those that a "Class B Mechanic" or "Class A Mechanic" could perform. Responsibilities include assisting others in the maintenance garage, perform preventive maintenance on light vehicles, and mechanical repairs on such vehicles. Will complete all paperwork, check lists, and documentation on any task performed.
Requirements:
Sustained physical endurance to lift up to 75 lbs., continuously stand, work with arms extended overhead, climb, and squat, as well as the ability to work in a fast-moving automotive maintenance garage.
DOT Physical Examination and Functional Capacity Exam required (paid by CTA).
Qualifications:
Class C Mechanic: Must have one year experience or training of mechanical repairs on heavy trucks or buses.
Must be capable of performing minor mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance.
Must be proficient in the repair of air brakes, air systems, air conditioning systems, chassis, electrical systems, and gas and diesel engine repair.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment DOT Physical Examination and pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test.
Must have the ability to read, write, and follow directions and instructions, department policies, as well as EPA and OSHA guidelines.
Must be capable of heavy physical work in a fast-moving automotive maintenance garage.
The position requires the employee to furnish all needed hand tools under 1". CTA provides all tools over 1".
Must have verifiable work references.
Requires a clean driving record and the ability to obtain a MS Commercial License Class “B” with a “P” (passenger) endorsement.
Responsible for D.O.T. self-certification to do annual inspections and brake inspections.
Education:
Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
