Role Description The Software Engineering Apprentice — LUNARTECH — USA role is a part-time, remote apprenticeship designed to provide hands-on experience in building AI-native software systems. The apprentice will support engineering teams by writing and testing code, working on small modules of larger products, and contributing to internal tools and prototypes. Day-to-day activities include collaborating on feature development, debugging and troubleshooting issues, working with databases and Linux environments, and participating in code reviews and documentation. The role also involves learning best practices in software engineering, version control, and testing, while gaining exposure to production-grade AI systems and modern development workflows. Apprentices will work closely with mentors and cross-functional teams to gradually take ownership of tasks and build practical skills.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess foundational skills in Programming and Software Development, with experience in at least one modern language (e.g., Java) and basic understanding of software engineering principles.
Candidates should possess skills in Databases, including basic querying, schema design concepts, and understanding of how applications interact with data stores.
Candidates should possess skills in Linux, including navigating the command line, managing files, and using common tools for development and troubleshooting.
Candidates should possess skills in Java, including writing, testing, and debugging simple applications or scripts.
Additional beneficial qualifications include familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), basic understanding of APIs and web services, and an interest in AI, machine learning, or data-intensive systems.
Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate in remote, distributed teams.
Current enrollment in or completion of coursework in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is advantageous but not strictly required
