What you'll own
Machine operation and process
Day-to-day running of UV flatbed and cylindrical/rotary printing equipment
Print parameter optimisation — resolution, pass count, print speed, head height, curing settings — balanced against throughput and quality
Jig and fixture design for holding parts flat, square and repeatable; part-to-print registration
Cylindrical printing specifically: chuck setup and alignment, rotation synchronisation, handling tapered and non-uniform bottle profiles, maintaining head gap over a curved surface
White ink and varnish layer management, including build strategy and cure between layers
Maintenance and uptime
Own daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance and make it stick — nozzle checks, capping station and wiper condition, purging routines, encoder strip and rail cleaning, filter and damper changes, waste ink management
Printhead health as a first-order priority: nozzle deviation, clog prevention and recovery, alignment and calibration, and knowing when a head is genuinely finished versus recoverable
Ink system management — circulation, white ink settling, ink lines, degassing, filtration
UV LED lamp condition and curing energy verification; identifying intensity degradation before it shows up as adhesion failure
Diagnose and correct print defects — banding, nozzle dropout, misregistration, orange peel, incomplete cure, colour variation
Root-cause recurring failures rather than repeatedly fixing them. A defect that comes back monthly hasn't been solved
Substrate, adhesion and curing
Qualify new substrates: adhesion testing, primer selection, surface preparation and treatment
Establish and document validated print recipes per substrate and per product
Control environmental factors that quietly destroy quality — dust, temperature, humidity, static
Colour and RIP interface
Manage RIP-side settings for the UV equipment and keep our machines in a calibrated state
Work alongside our colour management specialist, who owns profile creation. You own machine condition; they own colour standards. Both of you are needed for output to be right, and the boundary should be treated as a collaboration rather than a handover
Spares, vendors and continuity
Build and maintain a critical spares list with realistic lead times, and hold what needs holding. Printheads and long-lead items are where a small stock decision prevents weeks of stoppage
Manage OEM and dealer relationships, AMC contracts and service escalation; hold vendors to response commitments
Maintain a downtime log with cause codes, and report honestly on what's actually costing us hours
People and documentation
Write SOPs an operator can follow without you present
Train operators across shifts and verify they can actually do it, not just that they attended
Deliberately transfer knowledge rather than accumulate it
What we're looking for
Must have
4+ years hands-on with UV inkjet printing equipment — flatbed, cylindrical, or both
Real printhead-level competence: maintenance, alignment, clog diagnosis and recovery. This is the single most important technical requirement
Working knowledge of UV LED curing, ink chemistry behaviour, and adhesion on varied substrates
Demonstrated preventive maintenance discipline — you can describe a PM regime you built and sustained, not just one you were handed
Systematic fault diagnosis. You isolate cause across machine, ink, substrate, environment and file rather than guessing
RIP software familiarity — any of ONYX, Wasatch, Fiery, Caldera, ErgoSoft, or OEM RIPs such as RasterLink or VersaWorks
Comfortable with mechanical and electrical maintenance at component level
Able to train operators and write documentation in language they'll actually use
Hindi and English
Good to have
Specific experience on Mimaki UJF or JFX, Roland LEF or VersaUV, Mutoh, Epson, or comparable Chinese-built UV flatbeds
Rotary and cylindrical printing — bottles, tumblers, mugs, drinkware
Experience as a service engineer with an OEM or machine dealer — see the note below, we rate this highly
Printing on plastics, coated substrates and metals; primer and surface treatment experience
Colour management fundamentals — linearisation, ink limiting, profile behaviour
Jig and fixture design; basic CAD
Screen printing, pad printing or sublimation exposure
Maintenance data practice — OEE, MTBF, MTTR, downtime analysis
A note on background: engineers who have worked for a UV machine OEM or dealer are strongly encouraged to apply. Servicing many machines across many customers builds a diagnostic range that's hard to acquire running one or two machines in one plant, and it's exactly the experience that prevents stoppages here.
