About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
This is not a feature-factory role. You will take end-to-end ownership of production backend services in a regulated financial domain from design through deployment and on-call. You'll work primarily in Go (with some Python), on top of a mature internal framework that gives you consistent patterns for HTTP services, Kafka consumers, observability, and deployment across the platform.
You don't need prior experience; you need to be a genuinely strong backend engineer in *some* language, with the fundamentals to pick up Go quickly. Our framework plus AI tooling makes the ramp fast; what can't be taught quickly is judgment, ownership, and the ability to reason about distributed systems handling real money.
Responsibilities:
Go microservices for customer onboarding/KYC, payments, fund transactions, order management, and portfolio analytics.
Event-driven flows on Kafka (order updates, transaction lifecycles, payment events, and market data).
Real-time systems: WebSocket streaming for live prices, positions, and order updates.
Data layers spanning MongoDB (with field-level encryption), Redis, and TimescaleDB.
Integrations with brokers, RTAs, payment systems, and KYC providers.
Own services end-to-end: design, code, tests, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
Write correct, well-tested code for financial flows where precision and auditability are non-negotiable.
Debug across service boundaries using distributed tracing, structured logs, and event streams.
Use AI tooling (Claude) effectively and responsibly with high leverage, with the judgment to verify what it produces.
Make and document pragmatic technical decisions with minimal supervision.
Communicate timelines realistically and deliver on them.
Requirements:
3-4 years of hands-on backend application development (APIs, services, not data pipelines, not primarily frontend).
Deep proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Python, Java, Node.js, etc. ) with strong CS fundamentals.
Production experience with microservices and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or similar).
Experience with both NoSQL and SQL databases.
Solid grasp of concurrency, API design, and object-oriented/idiomatic design.
Comfortable on Linux, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Demonstrated ownership: built and operated something from scratch, not just maintained someone else's code.
Strong plus:
Production Go experience.
Fintech/trading/payments domain experience.
WebSockets or other real-time streaming systems.
Hands-on fluency with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor); you should be able to show how you use them.
Understanding of encryption concepts (we use field-level encryption for sensitive data).
Experience
3-4 yrs
