About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We're seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the design, delivery, and reliability of our core platform. You'll own engineering execution across multiple teams, set technical direction, and partner closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to ship reliable, secure, and scalable software. This is a hands-on leadership role: equal parts people management, technical strategy, and delivery accountability.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Engineering Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and grow multiple engineering teams (typically 15-40 engineers across squads, including engineering managers and tech leads).
Set and uphold a culture of ownership, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent; manage performance, career growth, and succession planning.
Technical Strategy and Architecture:
Define and drive the technical roadmap in alignment with company and product goals.
Make sound build-vs-buy and architecture decisions that balance speed, scalability, security, and cost.
Champion engineering best practices: code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and documentation.
Delivery and Execution:
Own end-to-end delivery of major initiatives from planning and estimation through release and post-launch reliability.
Establish and track engineering metrics (velocity, reliability, quality, cycle time) and use them to drive improvement.
Identify and remove bottlenecks, manage risk, and keep delivery predictable.
Reliability and Security:
Ensure systems meet high standards for uptime, performance, data integrity, and security appropriate to a financial platform.
Partner on compliance, data privacy, and regulatory requirements relevant to wealth and fintech.
Build and improve incident response, on-call practices, and operational maturity.
Cross-functional Partnership:
Collaborate with Product and Design to translate business strategy into technical execution.
Communicate progress, trade-offs, and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
Contribute to budgeting, vendor decisions, and resource planning.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
10+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years leading engineering teams (managing managers is a plus).
Proven track record of delivering complex, scalable, production-grade software systems.
Strong foundation in software architecture, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), and modern engineering practices.
Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
Experience in fintech, wealthtech, banking, or another regulated/financial domain.
Familiarity with data security, compliance frameworks, and handling sensitive financial data.
Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and API-first platforms.
Background in high-growth or scale-up environments.
Experience
9-13 yrs
