About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We're looking for the first marketing hire - not the first marketing manager, the first person who owns marketing in and out. For roughly the first three months, you are the function. You'll write the posts, shoot the videos, sit in the community, and ship the campaigns yourself. After that, you build the team around you. This is a head-of-marketing track, not an execution seat.
You're joining pre-launch, which means there's no funnel to optimise, no brand book to follow, and no positioning to inherit. You'll decide what the company sounds like and what it's willing to have an opinion about - in a category where almost everyone sounds the same.
Responsibilities:
Build a community from scratch before the product ships - Reddit, WhatsApp, Telegram, X, wherever people already argue about their money.
Establish the brand and voice: what we say, how we say it, and what we're prepared to be unpopular about.
Write long-form content, essays, and explainers - in finance, content is the reason a stranger trusts you enough to link their accounts.
Build presence across LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, podcasts, and Instagram.
Own SEO and AEO - including being cited when someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity how to invest their money.
Own the growth maths: CAC, payback, cohort retention, unit economics.
You'll direct agencies on performance rather than running every campaign yourself, but you need to understand it well enough to know when you're being sold nonsense.
Requirements:
3 - 6 years in marketing at consumer-facing or fintech companies, ideally early-stage.
You built things rather than inherited them - joined companies early, worked without a brief or a budget line.
A strong spike in creative thinking and idea generation. This is the non-negotiable.
First-principles thinking, which usually shows up as funnel and unit-economics fluency.
Still hands-on - in the last year, you personally wrote, shot, designed or shipped something you're proud of.
Someone who wants to prove something and grow with the company.
Strong plus: fintech experience, comfort on camera and an existing social presence (a micro-influencer on any platform is genuinely valuable here); community building from zero; a personal project like a newsletter, a channel, freelance work, or a startup.
