About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
The core responsibilities for the job include the following:
Application Development and Code Quality:
Design and build scalable, secure, resilient cloud-native applications using modern programming languages (Java, Python, Node.js, Go, and Kotlin) and backend/frontend frameworks (like Spring Boot, Quarkus, Hibernate, React, Angular, TypeScript, and JavaScript).
Establish coding standards, design patterns, validation strategies, and best practices; conduct thorough code reviews with constructive feedback.
Ensure code coverage above thresholds, minimal critical defects, and production-ready code (PRs/MRs).
Mentor team members on best practices, code refactoring, and secure coding; guide optimization for complex problems.
Perform POCs for technology stack decisions and recommend frameworks/tools.
Cloud-Native Architecture and AWS Services:
Deep hands-on experience with AWS services, serverless components, and containerization (Kubernetes, Docker, and ROSA).
Strong infrastructure-as-code skills (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
Design cloud-native applications using AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, etc. ), serverless components (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge), and containerization (Kubernetes, Docker, ROSA), and optimize performance and resource usage.
Adhere to cost optimization plans and proactively identify cost optimization opportunities.
Observability and Operations:
Design applications with an SRE mindset and observability-first principles: structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics instrumentation, and operational excellence.
Instrument applications to emit signals suitable for AI-assisted operations (like anomaly detection and auto-remediation).
Deep understanding of production metrics, operations, and observability practices.
Hands-on incident response, troubleshooting, and RCA experience.
Query monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Grafana, CloudWatch, Sumo Logic) and create dashboards for operational visibility.
Follow SOPs and perform troubleshooting during outages; respond to PagerDuty alerts with proper SLA adherence.
Lead RFCs and deployments; assist with documentation and ensure production readiness.
Participate in TCC calls and incident response; create detailed RCAs to prevent recurrence.
API and Microservices Development:
Design microservices following 12-factor principles and microservices patterns.
Create APIs with proper documentation (Swagger), authorization processes, and version control.
Create reusable, skeleton APIs and ensure API alignment with architectural designs.
Write API documentation and collaborate with architects for review.
DevOps and CI/CD:
Manage version control (Git) with branching, merging, and conflict resolution; understand Git workflows and cleanup strategies.
Implement and troubleshoot tools: GitLab-CI, ROSA pipelines, AWS CodePipeline, SonarQube, Veracode, Nexus, and package managers (Maven, Gradle, npm).
Understand build pipelines, investigate build failures independently, and guide team troubleshooting across ROSA and AWS applications.
Perform basic shell scripting (Bash/PowerShell) for automation.
AI-Assisted Development:
Understand core AI concepts; integrate organizational AI tools (Kiro, Kiro CLI) into daily workflows for code generation, debugging, and documentation.
Use AI tools responsibly with proper prompt engineering; build simple agent workflows to automate multi-step tasks.
Critically review AI-generated code and team members' work; validate output with business/technical contextapply suggestions critically, but don't over-rely.
Follow Responsible AI guidelines and security guardrails (prevent prompt injection, data leakage, and misuse).
Leverage AI for rapid prototyping, codebase comprehension, and solution exploration.
Define standards for responsible AI-assisted development across teams; ensure integrity and security.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related technical field.
10+ years of progressive IT/software engineering experience with hands-on development responsibility.
7+ years of hands-on application development (not ops/infrastructure only).
5+ years with AWS or an equivalent cloud platform (hands-on, not consulting).
Proficiency in at least 2 modern programming languages.
Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale applications.
Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices, APIs, and observability.
Full-stack development (Python, Java, ReactJS, AngularJS).
AWS (Lambda, CodeBuild, CodePipeline, RDS, ECS, API Gateway, ELBs, CloudWatch, S3 ROSA, Step Functions, Bedrock).
API Design (SOAP, REST, WebSockets, gRPC).
SRE (Reliability, Observability, SLO/SLI, Resilience/Resiliency, RCA, Blameless post-mortem).
AI (LLM, RAG, MCP, agentic workflows, prompt engineering, guardrails, auditability, AI-assisted development tools).
CI/CD (GitLab, Nexus, Shell scripts), Quality (pytest, JUnit, SonarQube), Security (Veracode, SCA, Wiz).
