Engineering Manager - Data (AWS / GCP)

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Engineering Manager - Data to lead the design, development, and scaling of our next-generation data platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Data Engineering, Cloud Technologies (AWS/GCP), and team leadership, with proven experience in high-growth B2C/D2C consumer internet companies. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, people leadership, and strategic thinking to build scalable, reliable, and data-driven solutions that power business growth and customer experiences at scale.
Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Data Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
Drive the architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale data platforms and data pipelines.
Build and manage batch and real-time data processing systems to support analytics, reporting, machine learning, and operational use cases.
Partner closely with Product, Analytics, Data Science, and Business teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, deployment processes, and operational excellence frameworks.
Ensure data quality, governance, security, reliability, and compliance across the data ecosystem.
Drive cloud adoption and optimisation initiatives leveraging AWS and/or GCP services.
Define technical roadmaps, capacity planning, and execution strategies aligned with business objectives.
Manage project delivery, stakeholder communication, and team performance.
Continuously improve platform scalability, availability, observability, and cost efficiency.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
11+ years of overall experience in Software Engineering/Data Engineering.
3+ years of experience leading and managing Data Engineering teams.
Strong experience working in B2C/D2C consumer-facing product companies.
Proven experience building and scaling large-scale data platforms serving millions of users.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, data architecture, and cloud-native technologies.

Experience with modern data architectures including Lakehouse implementations.
Prior experience managing geographically distributed teams.
Degree from a Tier-1/Tier-2 engineering institute is preferred.
