Job Profile: Field Testing & Commissioning Engineer (MV/LV Switchgear & Substation)

Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Base Office: Bhiwandi, with extensive PAN India site travel & few International
Mobility Requirement: High mobility (up to 70–80% travel for on-site commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting across India and international sites)
Position Overview
Seeking an energetic, hands-on Field Testing & Commissioning Engineer with at least 2 years of practical experience in MV/LV switchgear and electrical substation projects.
In this role, you will be independently responsible for executing Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), testing numerical protection relays across major OEMs, verifying control and protection schematics, carrying out pre-commissioning checks, and troubleshooting electrical faults during energization.
Key Responsibilities
1. MV & LV Switchgear Testing
Perform routine and pre-commissioning electrical testing on Medium Voltage (11kV / 33kV) and Low Voltage (415V) switchboards, PCC, MCC, and control panels.
Execute primary and secondary injection testing, insulation resistance (Megger), high-voltage withstand (Hi-Pot), breaker timing analysis, contact resistance measurement (CRM), and busbar torque verification.
Verify mechanical and electrical interlocks, auto-transfer schemes (ATS/AMF), breaker racking, and breaker trip/close coil health.
2. Substation Commissioning
Support site-level erection, testing, and commissioning activities for AIS substations, power/distribution transformers, CTs, PTs, and battery banks/chargers.
Conduct CT/PT testing: polarity, winding resistance, insulation resistance, turns ratio, and excitation/knee-point voltage verification.
Coordinate final energization clearances, ensure clearance protocols are met, and participate in dry/wet run commissioning alongside clients, consultants, and contractors.
3. Protection Relays & Control Wiring
Test, configure, and calibrate numerical protection relays (Overcurrent, Earth Fault, Differential, Distance, Line, Motor Protection, Voltage/Frequency schemes).
Hands-on testing of major relay makes such as Schneider Electric (MiCOM), ABB (REF-X/REM/REC/REL series), Siemens (SIPROTEC), GE / Alstom (Multilin/Agile), and HITACHI.
Review and interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), schematic control drawings, wiring schedules, and protection logic diagrams; trace wiring and rectify site-level cabling discrepancies.
4. Troubleshooting & Site Reporting
Diagnose and resolve complex site faults, trip conditions, control wiring mistakes, relay false tripping, and communication failures (Modbus / IEC 61850).
Prepare daily site progress reports, punch lists, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and formal reports for client sign-off.
Candidate Profile & Requirements
Education: Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE).
Experience: Minimum 2 to 3 years of direct field experience in switchgear testing, substation pre-commissioning, or site troubleshooting.
Mobility: Must be willing and ready to travel across India on short notice for extended project durations.
Testing Equipment Expertise: Familiarity with 3-phase secondary injection test kits (Omicron, Megger, or equivalent Indian test sets), micro-ohmmeters, HV test sets, and multi-meters.
Safety Adherence: Strict adherence to electrical safety standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and PPE compliance on energized and un-energized switchyards.
Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to coordinate between site contractors, panel builders, consultants, and project managers.
