Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (CMWSSB)
Job Summary:
InfraEn is seeking an experienced Waste Water Field Engineer to support the Technical Support Unit (TSU) of CMWSSB in improving the operational efficiency of wastewater infrastructure across Chennai. The role involves field supervision, performance assessment, operation and maintenance support, treatment process optimization, environmental compliance monitoring, and technical coordination for wastewater and sewerage systems.
The engineer will work closely with CMWSSB officials and multidisciplinary teams to improve service delivery, optimize treatment plant performance, enhance treated wastewater reuse, and ensure compliance with statutory standards.
Responsibilities:
1.Wastewater Infrastructure Monitoring
Conduct field inspections of sewer networks, Sewage Pumping Stations (SPS), Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), Tertiary Treatment Reverse Osmosis (TTRO) plants, and associated wastewater infrastructure.
Monitor operational performance and identify bottlenecks affecting service delivery.
Verify asset conditions and support infrastructure performance assessments.
2. Treatment Process Assessment
Evaluate the performance of wastewater treatment processes, including:
Activated Sludge Process (ASP)
Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR)
Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR)
Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB)
Constructed Wetlands
Tertiary Treatment Systems
Assess influent and effluent quality, treatment efficiency, and process optimization opportunities.
3. Operation & Maintenance Support
Support O&M activities for SPS, STPs, TTRO, and Tertiary Treatment Facilities.
Review energy consumption, manpower deployment, chemical dosing, sludge handling, and disposal practices.
Recommend measures for improving operational efficiency and reducing operating costs.
4. Environmental Compliance
Monitor compliance with CPCB, TNPCB, and NGT environmental regulations.
Verify discharge and treated water reuse standards.
Assist in environmental monitoring, documentation, and statutory reporting.
5. SCADA & Smart Utility Monitoring
Review SCADA data for plant performance monitoring.
Analyze operational trends and identify performance deviations.
Support implementation of digital monitoring and reporting systems.
6. Project Coordination
Coordinate with CMWSSB officials, contractors, consultants, and O&M agencies.
Support implementation of rehabilitation works, maintenance activities, and operational improvement initiatives.
Participate in technical meetings and field reviews.
7. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare:
Site inspection reports
Operational assessment reports
Performance monitoring reports
Technical recommendations
Monthly progress reports
Maintain project documentation and field records.
Qualifications:
Educational Qualification:
B.E./B.Tech in:
Civil Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Water Resources Engineering
A Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering will be an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in wastewater or sewerage infrastructure projects.
Experience in infrastructure advisory, consulting, or utility operations is preferred.
Experience with Government organizations, Urban Local Bodies, Water Boards, or Sewerage Utilities is desirable.

PPP or O&M contracts related to wastewater infrastructure.
Treated wastewater reuse projects.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent field coordination and stakeholder management.
Technical report writing and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently across multiple project locations.
Good communication and presentation skills.
