Role Description This remote volunteer Data Scientist role supports Outcome School’s mission by using data to improve learner outcomes, program design, and workforce alignment. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting, cleaning, and organizing data from learning platforms and partner organizations, performing exploratory data analysis to identify trends in learner performance and engagement, and building models or analytical frameworks to predict outcomes such as completion rates and employment metrics. The Data Scientist will create clear visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to educators, program leaders, and external partners, as well as develop metrics and experiments to evaluate and improve curricula and support services. The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to translate data findings into actionable recommendations that enhance training programs and hiring pathways.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong skills in Data Science and Data Analytics to design studies, build models, and interpret complex datasets.
Candidates should possess solid knowledge of Statistics and Data Analysis to perform hypothesis testing, measure program impact, and validate findings.
Candidates should possess practical experience in Data Visualization to create dashboards and reports that clearly communicate insights to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with tools such as Python or R, SQL, and modern analytics platforms (e.g., Pandas, scikit-learn, Tableau, Power BI) is highly beneficial.
Background in education, workforce development, or social impact analytics is a plus, along with prior experience working with underserved or minority communities.
Strong communication skills, ability to explain technical concepts to mixed audiences, and a collaborative mindset are important.
A bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics) or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
