Job description: Engineer - Should Costing & BOM Costing
Location: Yelahanka, Bangalore
About The Gig
We are looking for a Costing Engineer with 1–3 years of experience in Should Costing, BOM Costing, and Cost Analysis. The candidate will be responsible for developing part-level cost estimates, analyzing supplier quotations, preparing detailed BOM costing, and supporting sourcing and procurement teams in cost negotiations.
What youll do
Prepare Should Cost Models for automotive and EV components based on raw material, process,
tooling, labour, overhead, and margin.
Prepare and analyze BOM costing at part and assembly level.
Analyze supplier quotations and identify cost gaps and cost drivers.
Perform Raw Material (RM) cost calculations based on material grade, weight, scrap, yield, and
market prices.
Calculate manufacturing process costs such as:
Sheet Metal
Injection Moulding
Die Casting
Machining
Fabrication
Plastic Components
Assembly
Evaluate cycle time, machine rate, labour cost, overhead, scrap, rejection, and process efficiency.
Develop cost breakdowns and benchmark supplier prices against Should Cost.
Support supplier negotiations by providing detailed cost analysis and target pricing.
Conduct BOM variance and cost comparison between current and revised designs.
Analyze VA/VE opportunities for cost reduction.
Maintain and update RM price databases, process rates, labour rates, tooling costs, and overhead
assumptions.
Support new product development (NPD) costing and engineering change cost impact analysis.
Prepare monthly BOM cost comparison and cost reduction reports.
Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Finance, and Suppliers for cost validation.
Ensure costing data is accurately maintained in Excel/ERP systems.
What You Bring
Required Skills
Good knowledge of Should Costing and Cost Breakdown Analysis.
Good understanding of BOM structure and manufacturing processes.
Strong knowledge of MS Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and basic costing
formulas.
Understanding of raw material pricing and market trends.
Ability to analyze supplier quotations and identify cost deviations.
Basic knowledge of tooling and die/mould costing.
Good analytical and negotiation-support skills.
Knowledge of ERP/BOM systems will be an added advantage.
Qualification
B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Industry Experience
Experience in Automotive, EV, Auto Components, Sheet Metal, Plastic, Die Casting, Machining, or
Manufacturing industries will be preferred.
