Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) builds secure housing and resilient living environments for low-income women and girls. Technology is central to how we drive social change — from gathering the data needed to understand urban challenges to designing solutions that reduce climate risk.
MHT strengthens essential civic and housing infrastructure, including water, sanitation, drainage, solid waste management, roads, electricity/energy, low-income housing, and secure land tenure. Using data-driven insights, spatial analysis, and digital tools, we connect communities to financial, legal, and technical services in housing, water, sanitation, and energy. This approach keeps our work community-driven, scalable, and evidence-based — improving lives and livelihoods for underprivileged women.
MHT runs several Climate Resilience Initiatives that tackle urban heat, climate risk, and vulnerability in low-income communities. These projects combine spatial analysis, community-driven data collection, and evidence-based advocacy to build resilience and improve living conditions for marginalized populations.
Role and Responsibilities
The Senior Associate – Urban Climate Resilience supports MHT's climate resilience initiatives through project management, reporting, and representation. Core responsibilities:
- Report Drafting & Documentation: Write clear, high-quality reports, briefs, and presentations on project progress, findings, and outcomes for donors, partners, and stakeholders. Edit for readability and flow, and strengthen structure and sequencing across documents.
- Climate and Heat Action Plans: Lead the preparation of Climate Action Plans, Heat Action Plans, and urban resilience strategies — including risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, stakeholder consultations, policy review, and adaptation and mitigation measures. Check calculations, assumptions, and analysis for errors or gaps.
- Geospatial and Data Analysis: Analyze urban, climate, and socio-economic data, and turn it into clear dashboards, maps, and visualizations using ArcGIS, QGIS, Tableau, Power BI, R, or similar tools, to support evidence-based decisions.
- Resilience Integration: Help integrate blue-green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and community-centered approaches into city planning and resilience frameworks.
- Conference & Representation: Represent MHT at conferences, workshops, and forums, and communicate its work and impact clearly.
- Project Management Support: Help plan, monitor, and coordinate project activities so outputs are delivered on time.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with partner organizations, government agencies, and community groups to strengthen collaboration and advocacy.
- Knowledge Management: Conduct literature reviews, compile secondary data, and contribute to knowledge products on MHT's climate resilience work.
- Continuous Learning: Track emerging trends in climate resilience, climate policy, and urban planning to keep MHT's strategies current.
Requirements:
Education: Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Development, or a related field.
Experience: 4–8 years in project management, development practice, or urban/climate resilience work.
Skills:
- Experience developing and implementing urban resilience strategies, including Heat Action Plans, Climate Action Plans, blue-green infrastructure interventions, land-use planning, and nature-based solutions.
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English and Hindi (Gujarati is a plus).
- Ability to coordinate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in geospatial tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign.
- A strong eye for design, able to produce polished report layouts with a consistent visual style and clear navigation.
