Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) is looking for an experienced and people-focused HR Manager to strengthen our human resources systems and support our growing team.
Founded in 1994, MHT works with women from low-income urban communities to improve their habitat, strengthen their capacities and build more resilient communities. MHT currently works across 700+ slums in 10 cities across India.
Key ResponsibilitiesTalent Acquisition
· Lead workforce planning and support development of a strong talent pipeline.
· Assess existing staff capacities and anticipate future skill requirements.
· Manage recruitment for core, project-based, field and consultant positions.
· Oversee candidate sourcing, interviews, selection and background verification.
· Track recruitment indicators such as time-to-hire and quality-of-hire.
Employee Onboarding
· Lead structured onboarding for new employees.
· Orient new team members to MHT’s mission, values, ethics, policies and workplace practices.
· Ensure employees clearly understand their roles, responsibilities and performance expectations.
· Coordinate required documentation, tools, training and support for new hires.
· Facilitate early engagement between new employees, managers and teams.
Employee Relations & Engagement
· Strengthen employee engagement and workplace culture across MHT offices.
· Handle employee grievances, disciplinary matters and conflict resolution professionally and sensitively.
· Support the development and implementation of HR policies and employee relations initiatives.
· Coordinate training related to HR policies, compliance and conflict resolution.
· Develop strategies to support staff retention and engagement.
Performance Management & Staff Development
· Support managers and employees in goal-setting and performance review processes.
· Monitor performance management systems and recommend improvements.
· Work with managers to address performance challenges and develop performance improvement plans where required.
· Facilitate clear communication regarding roles, expectations and performance goals.
· Provide coaching and feedback to strengthen staff performance.
· Identify training and capacity-building needs for office and field teams.
· Link performance management with compensation, succession planning and employee development.
· Analyse performance data and prepare reports to support management decision-making.
Qualifications
· Master’s degree in Human Resources, Social Work (MSW), Business Administration (MBA) or a related discipline.
· 7–10 years of progressive HR experience.
· Experience in the social impact, NGO or service sector is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Professional working proficiency in English and relevant regional language(s).
· Strong problem-solving, grievance-handling and conflict-resolution abilities.
· Hands-on experience in employee engagement and employee relations.
· Sensitivity to social, cultural and gender diversity.
· Ability to work effectively with office-based as well as grassroots/field teams.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with HR software.
Travel Requirement
The position is based in Ahmedabad and requires approximately 8–10 days of planned travel within India, depending on organizational requirements.
Remuneration
Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Candidates are requested to mention their current CTC and notice period while applying.
