Role Description The Senior Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for leading design and development activities for special purpose machines, precision moulds, and automotive components. This role involves creating and reviewing 3D models and detailed drawings, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements, and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and quality standards. The Senior Design Engineer will oversee concept development, design validation, and prototyping, while supporting manufacturing and assembly teams with technical guidance and design improvements. Daily responsibilities include optimizing designs for manufacturability, cost, and reliability, managing design documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers and participating in client discussions to translate application needs into robust engineering solutions.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Design Engineering and Product Design, with the ability to lead complex projects from concept to production.
Applied knowledge of Mechanical Engineering for industrial machinery, moulds, and automotive components.
Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools for 3D modeling, detailing, and tolerance analysis.
Basic to intermediate understanding of Electrical Engineering principles relevant to automation equipment and SPMs.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience in automotive or industrial equipment manufacturing, including exposure to CNC machining, moulds, and fixtures.
Familiarity with industry standards, GD&T, and design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate on-site with multidisciplinary teams.
