Role Description The VMC Operator will be responsible for operating and monitoring Vertical Machining Centers (VMC) to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and process instructions. Day-to-day tasks include machine setup, loading and unloading parts, selecting and changing tools, entering and verifying machining parameters, and performing basic program adjustments as required. The role involves inspecting parts using measuring instruments, maintaining dimensional accuracy, and documenting production results to meet quality and safety standards. The VMC Operator will also perform routine machine maintenance, report equipment issues, collaborate with supervisors and quality teams, and support continuous improvement in machining processes. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai.
Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, machining process sheets, and work instructions.
Hands-on experience operating VMC machines, including setup, tool changes, and basic program adjustments.
Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges for quality inspection.
Understanding of CNC machining principles, cutting parameters, tool life management, and basic troubleshooting of machining issues.
Knowledge of safety practices in machine shop environments and adherence to quality standards and production procedures.
Prior experience in automotive or precision component manufacturing is highly beneficial.
Ability to work in shifts, stand for extended periods, and handle shop floor activities safely and efficiently.
ITI/Diploma in Mechanical, Tool & Die, Production, or a related field; relevant VMC/CNC operator certification is an advantage.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to work cooperatively with production and quality teams.
