Epidemiologist

Position Overview
The Epidemiologist (Independent Contractor) supports PetraMED's healthcare, correctional health, and public health initiatives by analyzing health and disease data to identify patterns, trends, risk factors, and potential public-health concerns.
This role is responsible for epidemiological analysis, disease surveillance, statistical analysis, reporting, outbreak investigation support, research, and program evaluation to support evidence-based healthcare and public-health decision-making.
Responsibilities
Collect, organize, validate, analyze, and interpret epidemiological and public-health data.
Conduct disease surveillance and monitor health indicators, patterns, trends, and emerging concerns.
Apply epidemiological and statistical methods to evaluate health outcomes and population-level risks.
Identify risk factors and populations that may be disproportionately affected by health conditions.
Support epidemiological investigations involving outbreaks, disease events, and other public-health concerns.
Develop and apply appropriate study designs and analytical methodologies.
Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses.
Assess data quality, completeness, consistency, validity, and reliability.
Identify significant trends, anomalies, associations, and findings requiring further analysis.
Prepare tables, charts, dashboards, technical reports, summaries, and presentations.
Translate epidemiological findings into clear, evidence-based conclusions and recommendations.
Support public health program monitoring and evaluation activities.
Assist in developing surveillance methodologies, indicators, and performance measures.
Review scientific and public-health literature to support analytical findings and recommendations.
Maintain documentation of analytical methods, data sources, assumptions, limitations, and findings.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, public-health professionals, researchers, analysts, and multidisciplinary teams.
Support healthcare research, quality improvement, public-health initiatives, and policy-related projects.
Qualifications
Required
Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative health field.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in epidemiology, public-health surveillance, health-data analysis, research, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of epidemiological principles and methods.
Experience working with healthcare, public-health, surveillance, research, or population-health datasets.
Experience conducting statistical and epidemiological analyses.
Knowledge of study design, surveillance methodologies, data quality, bias, confounding, and interpretation of health data.
Experience preparing technical reports and communicating analytical findings.
Proficiency with at least one statistical or analytical platform such as SAS, R, Python, or similar software.
Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong attention to data quality and analytical accuracy.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Must currently reside in the United States.
Preferred
Doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a related field.
Five or more years of professional epidemiology or public-health surveillance experience.
Experience with multiple analytical tools such as SAS, R, Python, or SQL.
Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar data-visualization platforms.
Experience working with large or complex healthcare or public health datasets.
Experience in communicable disease or infectious-disease epidemiology.
Experience supporting outbreak investigations.
Experience with federal, state, or local public health programs.
Experience working with public health surveillance systems.
Experience with program evaluation or outcomes analysis.
Experience preparing scientific or technical reports, presentations, manuscripts, or publications.
Familiarity with healthcare quality, infection prevention, healthcare-associated infection surveillance, or correctional healthcare.

Compensation
$45–60 USD per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, and the scope of assigned work.
