About The Role
The Manager, Machine Learning Engineer at Vanguard plays a pivotal role in leading the development and deployment of advanced AI and machine learning solutions that drive strategic business initiatives. This leadership position involves managing cross-functional teams, collaborating with enterprise architects, and translating complex business needs into scalable technical solutions. The role requires a deep understanding of machine learning methodologies, data engineering, and platform capabilities to ensure the delivery of reliable, efficient, and innovative AI-driven products. The Manager will oversee the entire lifecycle of AI/ML projects—from solution design and implementation to operational management—while ensuring adherence to enterprise standards, security policies, and compliance requirements. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, with a preference for candidates holding a graduate degree. A minimum of eight years of relevant work experience in machine learning, data engineering, or related roles is required. Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams, developing AI/ML architectures, and delivering large-scale projects is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong expertise in machine learning algorithms, statistical analysis, optimization techniques, and experimentation methodologies. Familiarity with cloud platforms, data pipelines, and automation tools is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership in hiring, coaching, talent development, performance management, and compensation decisions, ensuring alignment with Human Resources policies and organizational goals.
Partner with Enterprise, Solution, and Domain Architects to define AI/ML solution architectures and develop strategic roadmaps, epics, and workstreams that translate business initiatives into technical deliverables.
Lead cross-functional teams across Product, Data Science, Platform, and Engineering to deliver AI/ML solutions from concept to production, maintaining alignment with business objectives and enterprise standards.
Establish best practices for engineering, reusable frameworks, and platform capabilities to enhance scalability, consistency, and efficiency across AI/ML projects.
Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of data, feature, and model pipelines to support scalable and reliable AI/ML solutions.
Apply expertise in machine learning, statistics, and experimentation to operationalize predictive models and decision-support systems.
Collaborate with Data Science teams to assess data quality, feature readiness, and model inputs, ensuring robust model development and deployment processes.
Drive operational excellence through automation, observability, monitoring, incident management, and continuous improvement practices for production AI/ML systems.
Ensure compliance with enterprise governance, security, risk management, and model lifecycle management policies.
Engage with business and technology stakeholders to understand objectives, evaluate opportunities, and translate complex requirements into actionable technical solutions.
Support departmental planning, prioritization, and execution of strategic initiatives, balancing delivery commitments with operational needs.
Establish scalable operating models, support processes, and service standards to ensure the long-term sustainability of AI/ML platforms and products.
Communicate technical strategies, solution recommendations, project progress, and business impact effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Participate in special projects, initiatives, and perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
