Role Description The Spanish Medical Interpreter is a full-time remote role responsible for facilitating accurate and confidential communication between Spanish-speaking patients and English-speaking healthcare professionals. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting medical information during appointments, consultations, and follow-up calls, ensuring that patients clearly understand diagnoses, treatment plans, and instructions. The role involves listening carefully, conveying messages faithfully without additions or omissions, and maintaining neutrality and professionalism. The interpreter may also support written translation of short medical documents or patient instructions, adhere to medical and privacy regulations, and collaborate with clinical staff to provide culturally sensitive communication. Consistent availability during scheduled shifts and reliable remote connectivity are essential.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Medical Interpretation and Interpreting skills, with proven experience in healthcare settings.
Candidates should possess proficiency in Medical Terminology in both Spanish and English to accurately convey clinical information.
Candidates should possess capabilities in Simultaneous Interpretation for real-time medical encounters when required.
Candidates should possess Translation skills for short medical documents, patient education materials, and instructions.
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and excellent command of English, with clear, professional communication.
Knowledge of patient confidentiality standards and compliance with HIPAA or equivalent privacy regulations.
Strong active listening, cultural competence, and ability to remain impartial while supporting patient understanding.
Previous experience as a medical interpreter or relevant certification (e.g., CMI, CHI) is highly beneficial.
