Company Description The Department of Artificial Intelligence (DoAI) at IIT Kharagpur, founded in 2024 through the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, is a leading educational and research hub for AI and ML innovations. It offers BTech, MTech, Integrated Dual Degree Programs (IDDP), and PhD programs focused on cutting-edge artificial intelligence. The department actively collaborates with industry partners through faculty engagement and dedicated channels such as SRIC, IIT Kharagpur, and AI4ICPS. Role Description The Owner role at the Department of Artificial Intelligence involves full-time, on-site leadership and strategic oversight of academic, research, and collaborative activities in West Bengal, India. The Owner will guide the department’s vision, set long-term goals, and ensure alignment with IIT Kharagpur’s mission and national priorities in AI and ML. Responsibilities include overseeing curriculum development, research initiatives, and grant proposals, as well as fostering strong relationships with industry partners, funding agencies, and academic collaborators. The role also includes mentoring faculty and researchers, promoting interdisciplinary projects, and ensuring high standards in student admissions, evaluations, and academic quality. The Owner will represent the department in institutional and external forums, manage key resources, and drive initiatives that enhance the department’s global reputation and impact.
Qualifications
Strong expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning, including foundational theory, algorithms, and applied research.
Proven experience in academic leadership, program development, and managing multidisciplinary research teams.
Demonstrated ability to secure competitive research funding and write impactful grant proposals aligned with future directions of AI.
Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with industry partners, funding bodies, and academic institutions.
Track record of high-quality publications in reputable journals and conferences in AI, ML, data science, or related fields.
Exceptional communication, mentorship, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and inspire faculty, researchers, and students.
PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with substantial postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.
Experience working in or with higher education institutions, preferably in leadership roles, and familiarity with Indian and global academic ecosystems.
