Role Description The Content Licensing Coordinator is a part-time, remote role responsible for managing licensing requests and agreements for the association’s academic content, including publications, conference materials, and digital resources. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing and processing incoming licensing inquiries, maintaining accurate records of licenses granted, and ensuring compliance with copyright and usage policies. The coordinator will communicate with authors, publishers, institutions, and other stakeholders to clarify licensing terms, negotiate arrangements where appropriate, and provide timely customer service. The role also involves tracking usage data, preparing basic reports on licensing activity, and collaborating with colleagues to improve internal workflows and access to content. This position requires working independently, managing multiple requests, and supporting the association’s mission to disseminate African Studies scholarship responsibly.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Interpersonal Skills and Customer Service abilities to manage stakeholder relationships and respond to licensing inquiries professionally.
Candidates should possess solid Communication skills, both written and verbal, to interpret licensing needs, document agreements clearly, and explain policies in accessible terms.
Candidates should possess robust Analytical Skills to review licensing requests, assess compliance with copyright guidelines, and monitor usage and reporting data.
Candidates should possess knowledge of Licensing practices, copyright principles, and content usage rights, ideally with experience in academic or publishing environments.
Additional beneficial qualifications include excellent organization and time management, attention to detail, familiarity with digital content management systems, and an interest in or background in African Studies or related disciplines.
A relevant degree or equivalent experience in publishing, information management, law, or a related field is advantageous, alongside the ability to work independently in a remote, part-time setting.
