We are a growing, mission-driven company, and we're looking for a Staff Accountant to join our remote finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who wants to build a strong foundation in accounting while gaining hands-on experience in a growing technology and travel company.
The Role As a Staff Accountant, you'll support the day-to-day accounting operations of Wheel the World. You'll work closely with our finance team and colleagues across the company to keep our financial records accurate, organized, and up to date. We're looking for someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, curious, and eager to learn. You don't need to have years of experience—we're looking for someone with a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals who is ready to grow.
Responsibilities
Support day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
Prepare bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Prepare and record journal entries.
Review invoices, receipts, and other financial documentation.
Assist with vendor payments and accounts payable management.
Help track and reconcile customer payments and accounts receivable.
Research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Maintain accurate and organized accounting records.
Assist with financial reporting and analysis.
Support audit and tax-related requests.
Help maintain accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency.
Collaborate remotely with team members across different functions and time zones.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
0–2 years of accounting experience; accounting internships are welcome.
Required Skills
Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
A curious, problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn.
Ability to take ownership while knowing when to ask questions.
Preferred Skills
Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or another accounting system.
Previous accounting or finance internship experience.
Familiarity with U.S. GAAP.
Experience working for a startup, technology company, travel company, or e-commerce business.
Experience working with remote or distributed teams.
