Brief Description
About the Role
Aegis Sortation is searching for an Electrical Concepting and Estimating Engineer to join our Concepting and Estimating team and help define innovative automation solutions for customers across the logistics, warehouse, distribution, and parcel industries. Working at the earliest stages of the project lifecycle, this individual transforms customer requirements into conceptual electrical and controls designs, collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop system solutions, and helps shape proposals that drive project success. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys thinking about the big picture, solving complex challenges, starting from a blank sheet of paper, and influencing automation projects before detailed design begins.
Location
Flexible. This role can be based remotely or in a hybrid arrangement from Louisville, KY; Memphis, TN; or Mason, OH, depending on the candidate and team needs.
Salary
Final compensation will be determined based on a candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications demonstrated throughout the interview process.
Travel
Up to 15% travel as needed for customer meetings and occasional site visits.

What You'll Do
Develop conceptual electrical and controls solutions for automated material handling and intralogistics systems.
Define preliminary controls architectures, network requirements, and electrical system concepts.

Collaborate with sales, mechanical engineering, and solutions development teams to create customer-focused system designs.
Participate in solution development from a "blank sheet of paper" concept stage through proposal delivery.
Assist with equipment selection, power distribution concepts, and control system recommendations.
Develop conceptual electrical layouts and supporting technical documentation.
Prepare budgetary estimates, technical proposals, and scope documentation.
Identify project risks, assumptions, and value-engineering opportunities.
Work with equipment vendors and partners to obtain technical information and pricing.
Participate in customer meetings, site assessments, technical presentations, and solution reviews.
Support project handoff activities after award and provide technical continuity to execution teams.
Requirements
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
3+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, electrical design, or material handling systems
Knowledge of PLC-based control systems and industrial automation architecture
Familiarity with industrial networking, motor controls, VFDs, sensors, and field devices
Experience creating electrical concepts, system architectures, or control strategies
Ability to interpret customer requirements and develop practical automation solutions
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Experience with warehouse automation, sortation systems, conveyor systems, or intralogistics solutions preferred
Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required
