Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to support advanced automation initiatives for machinery manufacturing operations. This long-term contract position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer who can translate legacy control strategies into modern edge-based solutions while helping define a scalable technical framework for future growth. The role combines field execution, software logic development, and systems architecture to improve performance, reliability, and deployment consistency across large operating environments.
Responsibilities:
• Translate existing control logic into edge-compatible automation code for plunger lift and related systems.
• Refine Modbus communications, register mapping, and datapoint organization to improve equipment visibility and operational efficiency.
• Build standardized logic packages, configuration methods, and deployment approaches that can be repeated across high-volume installations.
• Program, configure, test, and commission RTUs and edge devices to ensure dependable field performance.
• Verify proper operation of sensors, alarms, communications, and control sequences during startup and ongoing system validation.
• Investigate and resolve integration problems involving control hardware, edge platforms, and connected field equipment.
• Define structured data flows that move operational information from RTUs through Modbus into downstream software applications.
• Produce technical standards, commissioning documentation, and best-practice guides that support large-scale rollouts.
• Provide engineering input on platform design, scalability, and long-range automation strategy across multi-site deployments.
• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, industrial automation, or controls engineering environments.
• Strong background in SCADA, PLC control, and TCP-based industrial communications.
• Demonstrated expertise with Modbus protocols, including polling strategy, register mapping, communications setup, and troubleshooting.
• Proven ability to convert legacy control logic into modern edge or distributed automation architectures.
• Hands-on experience programming and commissioning RTUs, controllers, or comparable field automation devices.
• Solid understanding of industrial control systems within oil and gas, machinery manufacturing, or similarly complex operating environments.
• Ability to contribute architectural guidance and scalable design recommendations in addition to implementation work.
• Experience with artificial lift applications, industrial IoT, or customer-facing data platforms is a plus.
