About The Role
We are seeking a talented and innovative Mass Communication Specialist to join the U.S. Navy’s Public Affairs team. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting compelling stories that highlight the achievements and activities of Navy personnel worldwide. Your creativity and communication skills will be essential in developing multimedia content, managing media relations, and enhancing the Navy’s public image. You will work closely with senior officers and external media outlets to produce high-quality visual and written content, including videos, photographs, press releases, and digital campaigns. This position offers a unique opportunity to travel globally, document military operations, and influence public perception through strategic communication efforts. The ideal candidate will be a proactive communicator, adept at managing multiple projects, and capable of working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess a high school diploma or equivalent; however, a degree in communications, journalism, media, or related fields is preferred. Strong proficiency in photography, videography, and digital editing software is essential. Experience with social media management, content creation, and multimedia storytelling will be highly valued. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external partners. Candidates must demonstrate creativity, adaptability, and a strong sense of professionalism. Prior experience in media, public relations, or military communication is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates must meet the physical and security requirements set forth by the Navy and be willing to travel internationally as needed.
Responsibilities
Develop and produce print publications and multimedia content, including videos, photographs, digital graphics, web-based products, news stories, features, blogs, and press releases that effectively communicate Navy initiatives and achievements.
Operate and maintain advanced photography and videography equipment, ensuring high-quality visual content for various platforms.
Conduct research to understand target audiences, analyze data, and provide actionable feedback to leadership to refine communication strategies.
Identify potential communication issues and develop innovative solutions based on research and situational analysis.
Collaborate with local and national news media outlets to coordinate story releases and develop comprehensive public relations campaigns.
Conduct ship and base tours for distinguished visitors, including foreign dignitaries and high-profile individuals, showcasing Navy operations and capabilities.
Assist and work under the guidance of Public Affairs Officers and senior Mass Communication Specialists to ensure messaging aligns with Navy policies and objectives.
Prepare and advise unit commanders for media interactions, including interviews, press conferences, and public appearances.
Develop content strategies tailored to various platforms, including social media, websites, and traditional media outlets, to maximize outreach and engagement.
Represent the Navy in speaking engagements and media interviews, effectively communicating the Navy’s mission and values to diverse audiences.
