XpertVR develops immersive VR and XR training simulations for emergency response, public safety, industrial safety, and other high-risk environments.
We are expanding our technical team for a six-month R&D project focused on creating more adaptive VR training simulations using real-time simulation systems and artificial intelligence.
The Role
We are looking for a Unity VR / AI Developer to help integrate AI-driven communication and behaviour into our Unity-based simulation platform.
You will work closely with our Unity developers, technical artists, and emergency-response subject matter experts to develop AI systems that understand live simulation conditions and generate appropriate responses and actions.
What You’ll Work On
Integrating AI and LLM-based systems into Unity applications
Supplying live simulation-state information to AI systems
Developing state-aware communication for virtual responders, dispatchers, patients, and bystanders
Converting user instructions into bounded AI tasks that affect the simulation
Building guardrails and validation systems for AI-generated responses
Optimizing AI response time and runtime performance
Integrating AI behaviour with NPC, animation, speech, and simulation systems
Supporting VR integration and performance testing
The project specifically calls for AI communication to respond to live simulation state and for incident-command instructions to be interpreted into bounded operational tasks that modify the simulation.
What We’re Looking For
Strong Unity and C# development experience
Experience developing VR/XR, games, simulations, or other real-time 3D applications
Experience working with AI within games or training tools, conversational AI, NLP, machine learning, or related AI technologies
Strong software architecture and debugging skills
AI-driven NPCs or character systems
OpenXR development,
Understanding of APIs, asynchronous systems, and real-time applications
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary development team
Nice to have:
Experience with locally hosted or offline AI models
Speech-to-text or text-to-speech systems
Meta Quest, or PICO development
Experience optimizing AI applications for limited hardware resources
What Success Looks Like in 6 Months
By the end of the contract, you will have helped deliver:
A working state-aware AI communication layer connected to live simulation conditions
An AI task system capable of interpreting participant instructions and translating them into controlled simulation actions
AI communication that meets the project’s defined accuracy, relevance, and latency testing requirements
A fully integrated AI system operating within XpertVR’s multi-scenario simulation prototype
The project’s validation target is for AI communication to produce contextually relevant, role-appropriate responses in at least 90% of structured test cases, while incident-command instructions are correctly interpreted into the intended task in at least 85% of cases.
