Highlight is what we're building next. Highlight Reels is the channel and the audience. Highlight Packs is the product: you buy a pack, instantly reveal a real graded card, and decide on the spot whether to keep it or sell it straight back to us. Every card is real, graded, and sitting in a vault.
Most companies in this category have to buy their audience. We already have one. We're a small team moving quickly, and we're hiring the engineer who will build this with us.
About the role
We are actively recruiting a Lead Full Stack Engineer to build Highlight Packs from the ground up. You'll report to the Head of Product and be the senior technical voice in the room. We want someone who has built in this space before, who can look at the product and tell us how it should be put together, and who will then go build it with a small team.
The problems here are more interesting than they look from the outside. Every card is a one-of-one physical item sitting in a vault, so inventory is not a quantity in a table. Every pack outcome has to be provably fair, so a customer can check our work and so can a regulator. We buy cards back at a price we publish, so pricing has to be right rather than roughly right. Real money moves, real cards ship, and all of it has to reconcile at the end of the day.
We're looking for someone who thrives with high levels of ownership and agency. You'll also help us hire the engineer who comes after you.
About You
7+ years building and shipping software, with systems you owned in production rather than handed off.
You're comfortable being the most senior engineer in the room, making architecture decisions other people will live with.
Deep experience with a relational database, Postgres preferred, and real opinions about schema design.
You've worked on systems where correctness isn't negotiable: payments, ledgers, wallets, marketplaces, gaming, or anything that gets audited.
You use AI tools hands-on to ship code. Claude, Codex, Cursor, whatever you're fastest in. We provide them and we expect you to use them (but not rely on them).
High agency in ambiguity. You take the whole problem rather than the ticket, and you don't wait around to be unblocked.
Strong written communication on a remote team, and the willingness to tell the Head of Product when he's wrong.
Nice to Have
You've built in this category before: repacks, breaks, collectibles, live selling, marketplaces, iGaming or regulated gaming. This is the most valuable thing you could bring and we'll make room for it.
Experience with payments, marketplaces, real-time systems (websockets, pubsub), or anything that touches money movement.
Experience with randomness, commitment schemes, or any system where users verify the outcome themselves.
React Native or native iOS.
Go (or equivalent) services behind a high-traffic consumer app.
Physical inventory, fulfillment, or logistics systems.
