Senior Dynamics 365 Business Central / AL Developer – Microsoft Fabric

We are recruiting for a short-term consulting opportunity for an experienced Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer with strong AL development and Microsoft Fabric/SQL experience.
Our client, a consulting firm supporting a multi-site manufacturing organization, is seeking additional development capacity to support an established Business Central environment and ongoing data and process improvement initiatives.
This individual will work alongside an existing developer to troubleshoot and improve custom Business Central code, support the Fabric Lakehouse data layer, and help address an active development backlog.
The ideal candidate is comfortable stepping into an existing, customized environment, understanding code developed by others, and contributing with limited technical ramp-up.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, troubleshoot, and refine custom Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central extensions using AL.
Assess existing custom pages, fields, business logic, event subscribers, and report objects to identify and implement improvements.
Diagnose and resolve issues with inherited custom code, including compatibility issues related to Business Central updates.
Work within an existing Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse environment to create, modify, and optimize SQL views.
Support the development and refinement of Gold/Delta tables to improve data availability, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.
Validate data outputs and contribute to discussions around data-layer design and development best practices.
Support Business Central sandbox and production environments, including extension deployment and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with the existing developer and project team to prioritize and complete development work.
Document code changes, technical decisions, and development processes.
Assist with Power Apps, Dataverse integration, and Power Automate development as needed.
Required Qualifications
Strong hands-on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central development experience using AL.
Experience developing and debugging custom AL extensions, including table/page extensions, codeunits, event subscribers, and report objects.
Ability to independently assess, troubleshoot, and improve an existing customized Business Central codebase.
Strong SQL development experience, including creating, modifying, and troubleshooting SQL views.
Experience with Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse or comparable Lakehouse/data engineering environments.
Understanding of Delta tables, data transformation, and data-layer development.
Experience working with Business Central sandbox and production environments and managing custom extension deployments.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with an established technical team.
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience developing within Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse, including Gold/Delta tables.
Experience taking over or improving Business Central customizations developed by another implementation partner or developer.
Experience with Power Apps, Dataverse, and integration with Business Central.
Power Automate experience.
Experience supporting customized Business Central environments through version upgrades.
Experience in manufacturing, food processing, or similar operational environments.
Engagement Details
Location: Remote; candidates in the United States and Canada will be considered.
Duration: Initial eight-week engagement, subject to project approval.
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility for heavier or lighter weeks depending on project needs.
Schedule: Some overlap with Mountain timezone business hours is required for project meetings and collaboration. Development work may be performed outside standard business hours.
