Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Field Superintendent to lead onsite construction and installation activities for hyperscale data center projects. The role is responsible for supervising crews and subcontractors, ensuring mission-critical infrastructure is installed to specification, coordinating telecommunications and network cabling work, and maintaining safety, quality, and schedule targets.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise onsite construction and cabling crews for data center and hyperscale projects, acting as the primary field representative for the superintendent function.
Coordinate and manage installation of network infrastructure including fiber backbone, patch panels, trunks, MPO/MTP systems, and copper cabling to design and industry standards.
Oversee testing and commissioning of fiber and cabling systems using OLTS, OTDR, VFL, and endface inspection tools; validate singlemode and multimode links and document results.
Enforce safety programs, conduct JHA/JSA reviews, perform daily safety briefings, and ensure compliance with mission-critical site procedures and client requirements.
Plan, schedule, and monitor subcontractor and installer activities; optimize crew assignments (CREW management) to meet milestones and maintain quality standards.
Review and verify installation deliverables: labeling, cable dressing, terminations, patching, and punch lists to meet system acceptance criteria.
Collaborate with project management, engineering, quality assurance, and client representatives to resolve technical issues and drive timely decisions.
Maintain accurate field documentation including work logs, as-built records, testing reports, change requests, and progress updates.
Conduct hands-on troubleshooting and mentoring of installers where required; provide guidance on proper termination, endface polishing/inspection, and cable handling best practices.
Support site readiness and commissioning activities for mission-critical systems, ensuring minimal impact on operations and adherence to uptime requirements.
Manage materials and equipment on site, track inventory, and coordinate deliveries to align with construction schedules.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying process improvements, training needs, and opportunities to reduce rework and improve first-time quality.
Qualifications
Minimum 7+ years of construction field experience with at least 3+ years in a superintendent or lead superintendent role on data center or hyperscale projects.
Demonstrated experience in data center infrastructure, hyperscale environments, and mission-critical construction practices.
Hands-on experience with telecommunications and network infrastructure installation, including fiber optic cabling, patch panels, trunks, MPO/MTP, and both singlemode and multimode systems.
Proven ability to perform and interpret fiber testing tools and processes: OLTS (loss testing), OTDR, VFL, and endface inspection.
Strong knowledge of labeling, cable dressing, terminations, patching, and documentation standards.
Experience creating and enforcing JHA/JSA and safety plans; strong focus on site safety and compliance in mission-critical environments.
Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple trades and subcontractors.
Proficient with installers and field crews; experience training and mentoring installation teams.
Familiarity with BICSI best practices and desirable certifications such as RCDD, RTPM, DCDC, or other industry credentials preferred.
Experience with CREW management tools, fiber connectors/terminations (MPO/MTP), and connector inspection/cleaning procedures preferred.
Working knowledge of testing acceptance criteria, endface quality, and fiber handling best practices; experience producing as-built documentation and test reports.
Willingness to travel to project sites and work extended hours as required; valid drivers license and ability to work in controlled, high-security environments.
