Microbiologist

This is an excellent opportunity for a microbiology graduate or early-career scientist looking to develop their laboratory experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll contribute to the production and testing of microbiological samples used in LGC Axio Proficiency Testing schemes and maintaining our ISO 17043 and ISO 17034 accredited quality systems.
What you'll be doing
Carrying out a range of routine microbiology techniques, including aseptic work, dilution preparation, sub-culturing, plate reading and microorganism identification.
Producing microbiological proficiency testing and reference material samples to defined specifications.
Performing quality control testing to ensure products meet the required standards.
Supporting preservation activities, including freeze-drying microorganisms.
Maintaining laboratory reagents, consumables and stock levels.
Ensuring laboratory cleanliness, hygiene and safety standards are maintained.
Completing laboratory documentation and records accurately.
Contributing to continuous improvement activities within the laboratory.
Supporting compliance with accredited quality systems and laboratory procedures.
Working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve team objectives and deliver high-quality products for our customers.
What we're looking for
A degree in Microbiology or a related Life Sciences subject, or equivalent laboratory experience.
Experience working in a laboratory environment, either through employment, industrial placement or academic projects.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities effectively.
A proactive and flexible approach to learning and problem solving.
Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
Basic IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records.
