Role Description The Junior Medical Coder internship is an on-site role based in Tiruchirappalli. The intern will assist in reviewing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate medical codes under the supervision of senior coders. Daily tasks include entering coded data into billing or record systems, verifying accuracy and completeness of patient information, and supporting audits to ensure compliance with applicable coding guidelines. The role also involves collaborating with clinical and administrative teams to clarify documentation, maintaining confidentiality of patient records, and learning best practices in healthcare coding and revenue cycle processes. Interns will receive mentorship, training, and feedback to build foundational medical coding skills and prepare for entry-level roles in the healthcare documentation field.
Qualifications
Foundational knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and basic healthcare processes.
Understanding of medical coding principles and interest in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS code sets (formal coursework or certification in progress is preferred).
Strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and ability to follow structured guidelines and procedures.
Basic computer literacy, including use of electronic health record systems, spreadsheets, and office productivity tools.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to seek clarification and work collaboratively in a team setting.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy and security standards in handling patient information.
Relevant academic background in health information management, life sciences, nursing, or a related field is beneficial.
